Dunlop Recessed Straplocks

I just purchased a bass with the Dunlop recessed straplocks and I cannot figure out how to actually get my strap on them. The straplocks are on the part that goes into the bass already. I saw that there was a U shaped thing on the bottom with two holes. I think I need to get this off in order to put my strap between the washer and the other cone shaped thing.

How do I get the horseshoe/U shaped thing off of the straplock?

I attached a picture of the thing I am talking about. It's on the left side. The straplock is already assembled but I haven't/can't put my strap in it while it's assembled.

I feel like an idiot. :x

EDIT: I just used a screwdriver to pry it off. Any way to delete a thread?
