I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions/recommendations for drum machines for recording.
I've got my Boss BR900 now for recording on, but the built-in drum machine is a bit robotic and too menu-driven. Set patterns are OK, but I much prefer a bit more flexibility to make the drum track sound more realistic.
I need the following: reasonable polyphony (BR900 has 5... not enough); velocity sensitive pads; a pad for each drum (ie. don't need to use a function key, like the BR 900); easy to make tracks with a mixture of real-time and stepwise recording; ability to download midi drum tracks (don't know much about that one at the moment, but I'll be working on it)
I DON'T need: bass tracks, but that may be unavoidable; and, funnily enough, I don't too worked up about quantisation... prefer to do it by ear... and prefer a raw sound to a slick sound
Currently thinking in terms of Boss or Alesis... don't think there's a lot else from what I've seen. Rather fancy the Boss Dr3 at the moment... is it worth spending more money on the more expensive models?
Just point out it's for realistic rock, blues, soul type stuff
