Dolphin to Dingwall or just Nordstrand

Hey guys.
I always like to try new things, and that includes instruments. You know the Warwick I have is a 91 Dolphin 5 string broadneck with bartolinis. It's an incredible instrument to say the least.
Now this could be due to lack of gigging or something, but somehow I'd like to try something new; Either swap out the pickups in the Dolphin with something Nordstrand, OR trade the bass for a Dingwall, if anyone is willing.

Am I being crazy? Dingwall GAS is killing me right now.:roll:

Oh man... I strongly suggest you get a set of Nordy Big Singles for your bass... I can not say enough to advocate those pickups. You won't have to custom order them too, they come stock for broadneck spacing. In any case do ask them, they are very helpful. Nordstrands will kill your boredom for sure...

Thanks for the reply. I did try Nordstrand Fat Stacks in another bass and they were fantastic. I am worried that Big Singles would be a tad too aggressive in this already prominent midrange-bass though.

Hum, well then. I shall take the liberty of reposting a couple of clips from our fellow forum member Rusty. I hope he doesn't mind. I can not find his original thread, and since it was pretty old I am assuming it got lost in a forum upgrade or something. Apparently he replaced the SDs on his Thumb with a set of Nordstrands, if I remember well they are Fat Stacks. Have a listen.

I say go for the ultimate raw, aggresive single coil tone, hehe.
Sometimes too much of something is simply lots of fun.

Hehe, well, yeah maybe. In the clips you posted there was a tremendous difference. Maybe output too huh? If those were Fat Stacks they did indeed sound nice, no doubt about it.

Ok Jester I recorded a clip to respond to your posted clip. If I switch to Nordstrands later I can maybe record to compare

Preamp bypassed, and plugging directly into the soundcard. Really old dead strings, sounds almost like flatwounds now.

* First fingerstyle both pickups, playing over the neck pickup
* Next 8 bars crazy slap, but changed to neck pickup for this clip.

All improvised playing, no plan whatsoever so that _may_ shine through hahaha lol, sorry for that but it is only to get a feel for the basic sound. I believe I could do much better if I knew what to play .
Edit: That slap thing is crap, please ignore it. Heh, I never slap on gigs so I should stick with fingerstyle for the argument.

Thought about last night's clip. It wasn't very good but it is too late to edit the post now, so I wanted to record something this morning that would show the three pickup possibilities for real so I can compare for later. I play the song Footloose by Kenny loggins with a crazy bassline from I believe Nathan East? Anyway, preamp bypassed, no EQ or effects or fixing, just the bass into the soundcard; (The clip with all clips layered is for fun only Also, Since I am an amateur and found it fun to be able to record something, I included a clip played with my Fender Precision, tone wide open, flatwound strings, played over the pickup)
