Do I have a curve bridge ?

Hi,

I just found that recently, I love low action on the setup of strings so it is not a problem before, but when I try to raise the bridge to get higher action for slapping and I found the bridge looks curve......

Is it a curve bridge ? is that normal ? What should I do, the setup is hard to be done!

Looks like a closeup with a zoom lens, lots of distortion.
 
I've never seen something like this mate. You need a new bridge... What year is your bass? Is the bridge heavy?
 
This bridge looks like it needs a set up.The strings need to follow the curvature of the fingerboard,this looks like it's been set up the other way round.
 
its just the curve of the body that makes the bridge look weird. its just a trick on your eyes...

that said the bridge saddles look badly set up.
 
Are you sure Alex? My Thumb is not even close to that no matter how I look at it.
 
I'm thinking there is a problem with that bridge rather than camera distortion or optical illusions. Here's a pic of the rear end of my Dolphin, I was focussing on the veneer, but you can see you don't get the image that the bridge curves down.

It is normal to see the SADDLES with different heights. But the BASE piece of the bridge, should never bend. There is a problem with that bridge that will cause major problems to your setup. You can compensate by raising the middle strings saddles, but it will never be perfect because the reference point (the base piece of the bridge) is not perfectly flat. I strongly suggest you order a new bridge right away and install it on your bass.
 
I had took it out, it is very curve, I think maybe I or the ex-owner adjust the bridge to hard from two side....

My thumb 6 is marked on B-045169-98, maybe it was made in 1998, I will need a bridge to replace, but you know, the agent in Taiwan sucks, also I bought this bass from www.bassnw.com., the agent always wanna check if the bass was sell from them...

I see that i should also buy a new bridge :? My bridge is curve too :cry:

That happens when the 2 screws at the side of the bridge are way too raised up...Man, that could be fixed with a hammer, do this
Take the bridge off your bass take everything out of it(all the saddles and screws place it upsidedown,place a towel or some cloth on top of it to avoid marking the bridege with the hammer and hit it gently in the middle until it gets flat again, use some soft material under the bridge like wood(not from your bass LOL) or carpet when you hit it....Godd luck!!! make sure that when you place the bridge back it stick flat gainst your bass !!!

it would help if you raise the temperature of the metal when you work it(it get sa bit more flexible)
 
it sound horrible but I may try, the agent may charge me alot for replace & repair, but they response slow.

after I hammer it, I may take the bass to store to reset......
 
Just out of interest, what are these bridges made out of? I see brass is no longer available, are they aluminum?
 
Man that bridge is more bent than bob dillan on a good day! :lol:
