Haven't been on in a while but need some friendly advice. Had seller's remorse over unloading my Fortress One 5 string and now have the opportunity to get another. Seller wanted $995 USD + shipping. I have him down to $900 + shipping. I feel it's slightly steep but don't want to lose out on it. The bass looks brand new. No dings or blemishes. not even a thumb mark on it. He had the electronics and truss rod checked by his tech (the guy has about 60 guitars and basses) and all came back clean. Comes with the original paperwork and gig bag. Would you pull the trigger on it or counter again?
 
little steep maybe but if you really want it is well worth it imo.

Other option is to order one from custom shop for 3500k ;)
 
I'd say it's almost fair price, for a 5-er, depending on the quality of the GigBag.
Ther bottom line being :

A/ Do you have the money ?
B/Do you want this bass ?
C/ Do you children have new shoes ?

If you got "Yes" to all three, then go.
 
All of the above.... Just don't want to overpay then see one for less in a week. If I had an extra $3500 I'd totally go custom shop :P
 
That price is a tad steep. Also I don't think you can get five string fortresses from custom shop anymore, can you? I thought I read maybe a year ago they were only selling the supply they had and there were no five strings in that supply....unless something has changed
 
I'm sure $1600 was a little steep for my 5-string Buzzard, but I haven't seen one before, or since. If you love the bass, and are happy with it, a few hundred dollars here and there is irrelevant IMO. Beats getting a great deal on a bass you don't like.

Question about the custom shop - aren't Warwick basses, especially CS basses, entirely CNC routed/made? How the heck can Warwick not offer certain custom shop options (especially with their tagline of 'if you can dream it, we can build it')? Why isn't it as simple as "grab a body blank in the desired wood of choice, open the Fortress CNC template, let 'er rip"?

I'm curious because I want to know how likely my ash-bodied Buzzard BO 5-string with custom pickup routing is, when I retire ;)

I sold mine for $800 + shipping and it was in nearly flawless condition (kicks self). The price is higher than I really want to pay, but I NEVER see them for sale, especially in nearly new condition and the alternative is a RB which is not even close in comparison and they are inexplicably expensive. Waiting on the shipping quote to see if it's doable
 
I fully agree with TheFritz : ... If you love the bass, and are happy with it, a few hundred dollars here and there is irrelevant IMO. Beats getting a great deal on a bass you don't like... + 1
 
I sold a Ovangkol/wenge neck 98 Thumb Bolt on 5 for $675 a few years back and I am pissed every day since. I would buy it back for $875or more right now no questions asked. Get the bass if you want it...they don't come around all that often:)

As you wish, itz yer money. But myselves, I would NEVER buy
it new for $3500 if someone offers me a very clean used one
for ONLY 1 or 2 hundred over market. "Market" is subjective,
mystical mythical, theoretical, la di da do da day. If market is
850 and you pay 975, maybe you feel a bit shamed when you
see one at the lower price later ... but just keep that between
you and your shrink. You still saved *about* 2500 !



You can thank me all the way to the bank :-)

Just waiting to see what the shipping is gonna come out to. Considering I still haven't seen another one anywhere and I literally found this one by browsing random music store inventory all over the US..... Hopefully I'll hear from him today.
 
I wouldn't flinch at over paying 10 or 15% if it's perfect like that one sounds.

I do refuse to talk to sellers asking 15% less than new price because it's hardly been used.

There are clear guidelines for used price. 895 versus 800? 895 isn't bad. See if he'll throw in a good patch cable or two. .... I've done that when purchases or trades were a little steeply uneven.

God, I hate that. It kills me!!

Better yet is when people price things roughly the same as new because they've made "enhancements" to the bass. The most offensive ones are "Give me $1800 and I'll give you this American Deluxe Precision with a PREMIUM Warmoth neck".
 
Yup. I fully get how rough it is to lose money on a sale, but used is buyer beware without warranty and with every chance of something being wrong, removed, downgraded, or just a crappy specimen without notice

Still waiting to hear back. I don't mind paying a little extra, but like I said, my luck literally is that a NOS will show up tomorrow for $800 :P That said, with the money I sold the previous one for, if I have to throw in $100 to get another one back that's barely been touched since he bought it AND I know it's been checked by a tech in the last week I'm going to do it. I'm hoping with shipping I have it in hand for about $950....
 
Mine. It took some haggling and a lot of patience but she's mine. Ships on monday. Wanted 995 + shipping and got it for $885 + 35 shipping. Overall I'm happy with the deal as I just don't see them in this condition anymore. He has all the original paperwork with it too which is nice and the original Warwick gig bag. Now to go thin out the rest of the herd...

Nice! Congrats on scoring a great axe that appears to be in mint condition.
 
A few hundred bucks more is better than the possible regret of missing out. IMHO. Nice score.
 
Thanks!! Shipping out today. He's an older guy with a huge collection of basses and guitars. Had to be patient as apparently he's got a lot on his plate at the moment but patience paid off in the end.
