Different body woods, different sounds, but which is which?

I guess most of us can have a relative idea, based on various sound bytes and reviews, of what Ash or Bubinga can do for your sound, but what of the other Custom shop wood possibilities?

What does Afzelia, Amarello, Carolena, Cherry, Walnut, Wenge do for the sound?

I'm interested in a purpleheart body in oil finish, just to get that gorgeous purple-red color without any stain... But what would it do for the sound?

I thought that Purpleheart sounds similar (to what extent ??) to Bubinga. Indeed, it is difficult to determine how a bass will sound when mixing all kinds of exotic woods. This is one reason that I don't like to experiment with a CS bass; what if I don't like the sound ??
