DI or Mic?

I really like my Audio Technica AT822 for recording live bands that allow it - Its a Fixed-Charge Condenser Stereo Mic - Works awesome for recording drums or any other instrument - I never used for running through a PA though, not really a need for a stereo mic with a bass amp - I'm sure it would pick up everything else, lol

do you record the whole mix with this single mic? (i only ask this as its a stereo mic)

I liked the way this one mic recorded my friends drum kit - But the rest of the band recorded DI including me - I know multiple mics are used when recording drums but I loved the stereo effect - Its also good for recording live shows - I'm not gigging and just jam with friends for fun or play at home with a drum machine or radio - I'm sure most would just use the Soundboard for a source but I occasionally like to record shows with the audience present as well - I also used this mic to rem. bass ideas - I leave on the ground with my bass amp on one side and drum machine amp on the other for a stereo split and use a mini-disc recorder - A quick way and nice sound

i've normally gone through a DI, and i've generally been happy with the tone, as i normally get the tone i want from the preamp in my bass But if i had the option i prefer it miced up.

Actually which are the best mic's for capturing the Warwick sound? Just so I know for future reference.


I did 6 shows with one sound guy and it wasn't until the 5th that he realised the FOH sounded way different to my cabs. Still refused to to anything other than DI. If it wasn't for the wierd way the room was laid out I could have probably used the amps power by itself.

The DI out of my x-treme gave high zzzz sound. Surely that isn't so great?

try the ground lift switch

I tried the Ground Lift switch today and it still sounded horrible. I'm wondering if it's the tweeters in the pa. I have the horns turned off on my cabs but that isn't the case if they are bypassed. Note this was a different system with a different engineer. On the plus side, due to strong wind none of my sound was being blown out before it got to the mic's.
