Wow....a LOT of replies on this. Perhaps you should just admit that this isn't the bass for you?
 
You talk about clarity and some of you guys suggest Nickel strings... But I thought Stainless Steel were brighter?

You think this is the first time cutting low end on a $$ has been discussed??? I would have thought that was Standard Operating Procedure at this point!!! Okay, I'll stop being silly... :roll:

Yeah, at first they are.
But Nickelstring will emphasize the mids/highmids - that could give him the feeling of a brighter (i.e. not that muddy) sound, imo

Possible. I think I'm not so dumb to not consider it.
But before getting rid of a 1500€ stuff, I prefer to get some hints.
When I am rich, I will burn my wrong-to-me-bass into the fireplace and start a lot of more more more interesting threads.

Thank you all for the advices. I'm working on the tone and I selected some pickups+eq settings, I'm going to test them in the next rehearsal.

I'm back with my $$.
A friend of mine borrowed me a 10 band eq.
I have worked a couple of hours trying different settings, and I achieved interesting results. I was very very satisfied.
But the real test was the rehearsal scheduled for the next day, and I was rather skeptical, because a lot of times my tone seemed so good but it ended up lost in the mix.
Not this time. It worked very well.
My setting was:
pickups: single coil
bass preamp: off
10 band eq:

Very happy to see that some eqing was the only thing you needed. I was confident that the $$ could deliver good tones.
 
10 band EQ?! Man i think you could make a cigar box strung with rubber bands sound good with that lol.

Glad you got there in the end though ;)

It's interesting... I've decided I really like nickel strings on my limited edition $$, but prefer steel on my production $$. But it's worth noting that I don't consider either of them to be "muddy" in tone anyway. If I engage the 'bright' switch on my amp, both $$'s are actually brighter than my LX which is active P/J on maple... ;)
 
Ok that was pretty intense thread, but I didn't see
one thing that I thought was really important.
Are your strings lined up directly over the poles of
the pickup?

I have the neck p up angled to the G string and back towards
the bridge pickup, and i have the Bridge p up angled
back towards the bridge (experiment with direction.)

But lining up directly over the poles is important and also
where are your fingers plucking the string? Are you by the neck?
Above the neck p up? Middle? Above the bridge p up?
Or do you play with a pick? and if so where?
 
I tried several pu angles, especially after I read a post by Golem about this issue. But it did not result decisive to solve my problem, though it improved the tone.
Plucking issue: I pluck in different spots, depending on the music I'm playing, but the "default" position is between the pups, a little closer to the bridge one, except for popping and slapping (between the neck and the neck pu).
I seldom use a pick.
I think that my $$ have definitely a tone a little bit "muddy" for my personal taste; however, my actual configuration (both pups in single coil, eq settings as shown in the picture), grants me a good tone in rehearsal, so I can consider the problem as "solved", and I think that my Corvette will share my passion for music for a long time. But at the same time, I am aware that I'd like to try something new, a new bass, with a different tone. I'm thinking about a Streamer LX. But not very soon: my budget is very limited. Just thinking.
