Decisions....Decisions....

Hey Everyone,

After this summer I plan on buying another Warwick. The two i have in mind are a Streamer $$ or a Streamer FNA. Im having trouble deciding whether i should get a 5 string or a 4. I play death metal, and do a lot of melodic tapping so i would be using a high C, personally im not a big fan of the low B. What are your thoughts on the basses/ the decision for either a 4 or 5?

something interesting to keep in mind is piccalo (sp?) tuning. I know victor wooten uses it a lot on his 4 strings basses. (ADGC)

personally i'd say go for a 5 for that time when you're in the studio and you just really need that low note. plus that way you can tune it with a high c and not worry about losing the E if you want it!

well i primarily play in Drop C (CGCF) so i dont really need a super low B

wow. lots of C's!

so... get a fiver and string it with light guage strings so you can tune it up (lots of people go CGCFA, but you could be really cool and string it CGCFC. that would be fancy! anyways, the 5 open up more possibilities, including the tighter strings if you decide to tune up so there's no slappy sound (like fieldy, blehhhh).

id probably use heavy gauge and string EADGC and then downtune to CGCFA, i have my basses professionally set up for the low tuning

I vote for the $$. Thread after thread you read about the amazing versatility. As much as I want a Thumb I'm thinking my next Wick will be a $$ if not the Taranis 5.

Now im thinking about a Corvette FNA Jazzman 5 string, any opinions on this bass?

In my opinion,the Jazzman configuration is killer,no matter what W bass it's on.

and 4 vs 5, I always go for 5.

They are more my thing.

i play in a death metal band ... and i believe that the faster you go, the less strings you need... when i say fast, i mean krisiun and not cannibal corpse... although both are definitely amazing bands.

however, you do a lot of melodic tapping... so i guess a 5 string tuned E A D G C would be good for you... you dont need the lower range, you need the higher one for tapping.

it still depends on your songs really ...

id personally go for a 4 string ... since i think death metal is about brute force and root notes

im into tech. death so root notes arent really my thing, but thanks for the advice
