Dealing with heavyness...

Man I just used an el-cheapo leather strap playing about 3 gigs a week back in the day with my Ric. And it's solid maple end to end. You get used to it.

Yeah I played a Rickenbacker for years but it was a feather compared to a Thumb.

BTW based on sound, it's worth every ounce.

Well I somewhat cured my heavyness problem... I headed over to GC and got another Franklin strap, But this time a woven cotton one. Feels awesome and alot more comfortable than the leather one. The problem was, I have broken my collarbone twice in the past and it's healed at a slight angle making it have a sharp point, And with the leather strap sitting down on it and rubbing back and forth it feels as if it's going to tear through the skin... Believe it or not

So this new strap is quite a bit better and alot more comfortable... Although I dont think anything will cure the heavyness problem all togethor... I think this will be my solution.. Or I can always put on some muscle as Greg suggested Although I tell ya! I eat like you wouldn't believe and I can't gain a pound!

I use these

Similar to the comfort strapp

It makes the bass fell lighter, but not much more, it helps a lot with the shoulder cutting feeling you get from other straps though.

It is still though to rock the house in a heavy metal band with a 13 pound wooden bugger :S

The hefty price for playing ERB...

BTW a thumb is 10 pounds (the lighter) but a rick 4000 is 9 pounds (the heavier) the heavier thumbs (which is the case here) go up to 11,5 pounds.

Gaining weight and muscles is really not problem.You just have to eat and exercise regularly at your local gim.

For beginning try like 5x20 push ups, three or four times a week. And trust me there will be no wieght problem!

i just bear it, my issue i have is getting a strap for the exact hight that i like, i'm quite small and like my bass up quite high meaning i need the strap to be pretty short, the better the fit around my body ie the more comfortable it is to play the less it seems to feel heavy...well least not for a good hour or more.

BTW based on sound, it's worth every ounce.

It might be that the Thumb is smaller, so the weight doesn`t get distributed that much, compared to the Rick which is bigger in size. This might give the impression that the Thumb is heavier, + there`s the chunkier neck.

Thumbin's thumb is a 6 string which is 5,1 kgs standard or 5,3 kgs broad neck (which I think is the case) that would put his bass on 11.6 pounds.

youch, that is a beast. Some strap maker used to make a foam strap, I thought the poncers putting them on Strats looked stupid, but for something that heavy it just might work. They were about 6 inches wide too, very comfy.

Yep, She weighs a TON! My new Franklin woven strap takes pretty good care of the weight now though

Sounds good. I used to strap on the Ric with an old '60's Beatles style strap, the thin leather strap with the useless shoulder pad (a wider piece of leather with a piece of felt for padding). Man that used to cut my arm off. Looked kinda kewel in a retro way though.

Alrighty, So the strap was tryed out during my first gig, And I have to say... I love these Franklin woven straps Man this thing is comfortable, We played a 45min set and my shoulder was'nt killing me afterwards.
