I hesitated to post this at first and gave them the benefit of the doubt, but I need to mention it and see if its a problem or not.
I installed a fresh set of EMP's on my 5 string LX. I noticed right off the start that they seemed to be a duller sound than the old Elixir's I replaced them with. I honestly didn't like it, but I figured that's just how they were. Elixir's always sounded a bit mellow as well when freshly installed but retained that same tone for 6 months or more, usually I'd have a string break before the tone dies.
I read about EMP's having 'A' dead string here and there, and since mine seemed to be all around, I didn't say anything.
My expectation was that these would be 'just like Black Label's' but would last longer. From the start they have never sounded as bright and fresh as Black Label's, and whats getting me now is the very uneven wearing they are experiencing. It's been 3 months since I installed them, mind you I gigged maybe 4 times since then, and I always wipe down my bass before and after playing. The E string sounds completely dead, the B string is close to it, and the other 3 sound about the same as they did from the start, still a bit of treble left in them, but like I said, they already sounded a bit dead from the beginning.
Anyway, Im not trying to make a bad name for the strings, or trying to just complain and whatever, I'm mainly asking if this is to be expected from these strings? I honestly feel maybe I got one of the bad batches, but I figured its too late to get them replaced, really I just want an honest answer, and maybe a warning to future buyers to make sure you get a good batch.
