Darken the wood

I was hoping to darken my ovangkol thumb 5 string a bit. The more I lemon oil it...the darker it seems to get, but I would like to darken it more, close to black without staining it. Any suggestions?
 
Or you can keep your eyes half closed and look that way :-)
Any oil will darken the wood, but I don't think one will make your bass look black.
 
I think only a stain can do this trick. Check with the wood section at Lowe's or Home Depot to see if they have some kind of stain that might be added to the oil. just a suggestion.
 
thats what i thought.

the cheapest way to go would be to squint every time I looked at the bass...thanks Florin! :roll:

staining or painting waxed wood seems quite risky to me, the intruded wax may cause faulty coloring, whats done is done then...

@trujo, no the bassplaying cutie is not my daughter, i found the pic long time ago and had to save it for my pic-collection, nice, isn't it?
 
no prob Lowblow...I figured you were joking. :wink: I also realize I am being a bit whiny about this whole process....Its just that...(sniff)...my bass is so beautiful and I want to enhance the finish, but I don't want to permanently wack the detail out of the grain...(sob, sniffle) :cry: . :lol: :lol: :lol:

Anyways...I will probably end up staining it as dark as I can without loosing the color...still have to surface sand it too...I won't be sanding so deep as to remove the finish, just enough to smooth out the surface. :P
 
Just an update...If you want to darken the natural color of Ovongkol, Ebony stain is the way to go...pics to follow in a week or so when I finish my finish. :wink:
