Custom Warwick Questions

Hello to all my beloved and fellow Warwick fans out there!

First off I just wanted to say hi (seeing as this is my first post and all) and that I think a forum like this is a great addition to the awesomely improved Warwick site.

I was thinking of getting a custom Warwick sometime soon and I wanted to hear your (anyone's) oppinion on the following bass:

Corvette Std. 6 (stock=bubinga),
Ash body with a cherry top,
Black hardware,
Fretless ebony fingerboard,
Piezo bridge,
Side dot LEDs (not sure about the color yet).

I already own a $$ 4 in NBK and I must say it has gotten me hooked on Warwicks. It's such an amazing bass. I can literally feel the quality.
I was thinking of going for a 6 string next because I'm interested in tuning the strings to GBEADG for a wider range in different tones. If I want to tune the bass like this would it be necessary to go for 2 .135 strings for the lower G and B in order to get the best tonal results? If so would I have to adjust the Just-A-Nut II so that the strings would fit?

Hi and a big welcome to the family. I think your custom sounds absolutely great. That cherry top could be superb, especially as fretless with that big chunk of ebony.
When it comes to the tuning, do you mean that you are adding a lower G? I'm not sure if I could recommend that because the string would be very "sloppy" if downtuning a .135. I used to play a vere special song where I had to detune the B to an A (used both an Infinity and an FNA, both 5:s) and the sound of that string is not as good as the rest. I recommend that you just try to downtune a .135 to G and see what it sounds like. Once again, welcome / mats

Thanks for the warm welcome mala. Honestly I never downtuned a B to a G before so I wouldn't know about the sloppy sound. I'll have to try it out on a 5 string sometime soon.

Hi again, I just plugged a bass in with a .140 stainless steelstring on, its a little bit harder than the rest. Downtuned to a G but it's very hard to get good definition on the tone and it vibrates so much so that you'll need to raise the string a bit but it also detunes to a higher pich because of the heavy vibration. If you still want to go for that tuning you'll need to make some adjustments to the nut because the .135 won't fit in the E place.

Yeah, luckily it's made of plastic (I think) so I might be able to widen the crevice where the strings run through. Thanks for your support mala.

The nut is not made of plastic. It is made out of Wilferite. A material developed by Warwick, it's a combination of graphite and other materials. I'm going to stick with mala on the fact that downtuning to G will make it really hard to get a well defined pitch.

Also be very careful with your nut,the carbon/teflon makes it a great nut but very brittle.Thats my 2 cents.
