Custom Build - 4 string Streamer II Bubinga Pommele

Hi everyone - I am a new member here and am just about to order my new bass as follows:

Streamer Stage II - Bubinga Pommele High Polish finish
4-String with Hipshot D-tuner
Blue LEDs (front facing)
Black hardware (bridge, knobs, machine heads)

Just wondering if there is anything I've forgotten that any other Warwick people out there may know of!? I opted for a 4-string with detuner (rather than a 5-string) because I've always just preferred and had more fun playing a 4-string!

What I am interested in is what you people think of the Bubinga Pommele body choice and whether it will sound good? To be honest I just loved the look of it more than anything :-)

Hi Bob, welcome.
I like the idea of bubinga pomelle, but not colouring it. It'll sound good, no question. Not that far from a stock afzelia model.When you say black, high polish, do you mean the coloured oil black, where you can still see the wood grain, with a high polish clear coat?
or,
Totally black, with no wood grain visible?
 
Hi Greg - thanks for your reply. The "black" I was referring to was just for the hardware (I.e. bridge, knobs and machine heads).
The actual wood for the body will be Bubinga Pommele........hopefully that makes sense :-)

Oh right. So just a high polish clear coat? That'd look cool, but maybe a satin finish might have a better feel.It'll look just like a natural oil finish,but never needs waxing. The one thing I dont like about high polish finishes is they way they feel when you're sweating. Too sticky.
 
Think about a matching headstock! looks 1000 times cooler, imo!
 
Hi Bob, welcome, i think your custom sounds very good, bubinga pomele on a stage II i dont think that has been done before (Greg can probably confirm or disagree with me cause he knows all ins and outs of any 'wick' ever built)
 
be aware that its back will be ash - unless you order the back being bubinga as well :-)

I own a Stage II with a cocobolo top and ash back -> super cool

I'd go for matchted headstock as well:-)

Sounds cool. I'm not a fan of matched headstocks myself - I prefer the straight black, especially if you're going for the black hardware. And if your hardware is black then, you could also think about getting an ebony board to match all that black!

For the LEDs I'd definitely recommend side LEDs rather than front ones. It's a matter of taste, but the side ones are useful, whereas you won't see the front ones while you're playing. And from watching lots of for-sale threads lately, I'd dare to guess that front LEDs might make the bass harder to sell if you ever decide it's not for you.

That's just my thoughts - feel free to ignore!
 
Go for the matched headstock dude!!

And ditch the LED's, they are laaaame!!!! :)

uhm?... if he chooses to change the body wood, it won't have an ash back - only if his choice is a bubinga top...

I'm trying to sell my LX6 with LED's and it's HARD. Why? Because LED's are an expensive option, which means the bass costed me quite a lot of money, BUT it's not relevant in the "used price". Someone told me "options on a bass are the same than options on a car, they don't really add value". Which means that if I want to sell my bass, I have to put it at the used price of a "normal" LX. And I lose a lot of money there.
 
Hi Bob, and welcome to the forum!

Maybe you consider the afzelia pomele! It looks different than bubinga pomele, but it is lighter, and it preserves the original SSII sound.

Please chose the options YOU want. Thinking already about the reselling price is just wrong IMHO - bad vibe...

You order a bass you want to use it all your life. Please don't be a victim of consumerism.
 
i like wenge necks but your bass sounds like it's going to be killer i would do like florin says and order your dream bass and not worry about resale.maby get your name put on it.and the matching head stock dounds cool.
 
I'm 100% with Florin. If you want THE ss2 sound, you'll need to keep with the Afzelia. Also, afzelia pommele is very good looking.
 
And after 5 or 8 years everybody will say it is Bubinga Pomele anyway, because it is darkening. Even if you know what is made of because it is your bass, some people will insist that they know better :-)

All these goodies sound great. I lust for a matched headstock & side LED's, & even a piezo bridge on my baby.
But,
When you strap on that stage 2, & start playing, everything else will seem, no, IS, insignificant. Your mortgage, your kids teeth needing braces, that lump in your sack that feels like you're growing a 3rd nut,The fact your back has more hair than your head, all this becomes insignificant, when you're playin your stage 2.
It is the bass that I judge all others against. Be it Ritter,Alembic,MTD,the long list well built Fender copies,basically everything.
I know I sound like one of them arrogant arses who swear their latest purchase is the be all & end of electric bass guitar. Who proclaim to all & sundry, that their latest bass investment is the highest performer ever concieved.I'm begining to get sick of the sound of my own praise for this particular bass. But I can assure you, may I be struck down dead at this very second, if I'm not being 100% honest with you all, that my stage 2 is the best sounding bass I've ever come across. Maybe it could feel better, I dunno. It feels pretty perfect to me, but the sound(s) simply never, EVER, fail to remind me just how great this thing sounds.
I dont really have any desire to own another bass.
