Corvette Std w/Broken Truss Rod

First Post - I bought a used 2004 Corvette Std 5 string off eBay last week and received it today, only to find out it appears to have a broken truss rod. I guess it is broken as it turns with very slight resistence in either direction, but never gets remotely snug, nor does it straighten out the extreme bow of the neck.

Any ideas? I have already considered sending it back to the seller, but I'd really rather get it repaired if it is possible. The problem appears to be finding anywhere to get a truss rod in the USA and then where to get it repaired.

All suggestions are appreciated.

Find a luthier, have it looked at then if needed call the NYC shop for truss rod

I am not sure you should have to cop the cost of a new truss rod and the labour needed to fit it. if the seller described the instrument as working, in good condition, or anything that suggests that it didnt have a major problem the item is not as described an you are well within your rights to send it back, or at least get the cost of the repair back form them. unless you got a ridiculous deal where the cost of repair is still better than getting another vette i would seriously consider speaking to the seller on this one. A 2004 vette will have the non-removable rod and need a bit or work to fix it. if the truss rod needs to be replaced, it probably wont be cheap.

Honestly, there are a million Corvette Std's out there. Unless you just got the world's best deal on this one and the seller is going to pay for the truss rod replacement, I'd send it back to the seller and buy a different one. I've never personally had a truss rod replaced, but in reading various posts, people pay several hundred dollars for this job. Considering a used 5 string Corvette Std costs around $500 in most markets, you could pay close to or over half the value of the bass. I'd let whoever sold you the defective product deal with this.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I spoke with the seller last evening and he promised to make it right, either by sending the bass back for a refund or repairing/replacing the neck. He had described the bass as a really nice playing bass. I paid $420 plus shipping for the bass and I am only seeing $650 and up for 5 strings, at least on eBay. I hope I can get it repaired, as it has the fatneck shape, which fits my hand quite well. Thanks again for all your assistance.
