Was there a Corvette $$ made with three knobs? I've seen Rockbass Corvette $$'s with three knobs, but I'm wondering about a made in Germany Corvette. Reason is that there's a guy not too far from me selling a Corvette $$, but the pics I saw don't show the back of the neck, and it's either got three knobs or two knobs and a stackpot. It's a natural ash finish. I can go look at it tomorrow, but I don't want to drive 45 miles if it's going to be a Rockbass. The price would be good for a MIG Warwick, but not all that exciting for a Rockbass.

That looks to be a rockbass, MIG $$ basses have 4 pots (Volume, PU Pan, Treble, Bass) as far as I have always known them 
I own a $$ myself and am getting a $$ NT soon, so yeah bit of a fan of these

Did you ask the guy if it´s a Rockbass or a german $$?
BTW, what Shadow said, 3 knobs Crovette $$ = Rockbass (unless it is a Custom Shop or modified german $$).

Yeah, I'm going to call him again this morning. I asked him where the bass was made, and he said, "Aren't they all made in Germany?" So he obviously doesn't know much about it. I asked him if the neck wood was light or dark, and he said the bass was at his storage unit, and he wasn't sure, but he thought it was dark. I'm betting it's maple with "dark" stripes. He's supposed to have gotten it this a. m., so I'll call him at some point.

Wait... Guy's got a bass to sell, that was in "storage unit" somewhere, can't tell if the wood was clear or dark, nor what was written on the headstock (it's kind of written on the headstock and on the rod plate what it is...)...
It's easy to spot a Rockbass. It is written on it. It has a one (before 2010) or two parts bridge.
$$ Corvette Made in Germany got 4 knobs and two mini switches, two parts bridge.
Run the serial on our website database. All the information you need to ID an instrument is most likely to be written on the headstock...
You sure it's a legit sale? It's just, the way I read your posts, I would not be comfortable with such a buy, but I probably misread it.

Well, fortunately I found a "real" one locally, and I'm going to see it this morning. Price is excellent, and if it's in good shape, it's coming home with me. Don't get me wrong, a Rockbass is "real," too, but it's not a German Warwick. I compared a Rockbass Corvette Standard to a MIM Fender Jazz a couple of years back, and IMO the Rockbass was the better instrument, though both were pretty good. The Rockbass had a matte red finish that was very attractive. Still, the $$ that I'm going to see today (not the one that was the subject of the original post) is priced considerably less than a new Rockbass, so I'm all for yummy Teutonic goodness.

Good luck with the buy! I have a $$ MIK as well, and a $$ NT is on the way soon, so yes, the $$ is a class instrument, let me know if you need help getting around the switching

If I may ask, what is the "price is excellent"? I was thinking of dropping the 5th string and getting a 4 banger $$ bolt on. The prices seem everywhere. What's your experience on the hunt been like?

Well, as you say, prices are all over the map. I've seen quite a few Corvette Standards in the $500-$650 range, both active and passive, ash and bubinga. The $$ I'm going to look at today is $500, which I think is a very good price, even if it shows some wear. Double bucks seem a little harder to find at a good price, though obviously they're out there. They seem to generally run in the $600 to $1000 usd range.

The $$ Bo is one of the best basses I have ever played, hands down Very thundery and throayt sound, but can really be switched to anything you fancy...plus the big buckers allow for any thumb rest position you ever wanted without having to fit a bridge between PUs
The $$ NT is a awesome as well, though a bit different. As both are awesome in their own way, I will soon get me NT to complete the set

AFAIK, it shouldn't need a wax. I have $$s in red, black, and natural,
and all have a satin finish that absorbs no wax. If the neck and FB look
like they'd appreciate waxing, that would work, as those have no finish.
