Corvette Classic or Basic

Hi everyone

Unfortunately I live in a remote part of the world so can't try out the two basses to compare.

Aside from colours, can people outline any differences in the way these two models play? Also, the differences in sound that they might have.

I also need to look at passive and active. I currently use a passive bass as I always worry about running out of battery at key moments!

Hi Dale, welcome to the forum man!

They are not very different soundwise... the difference is more aesthetic.

You better chose the version with ACtive MEC pickups, I personally like their sound better.

I agree...the differences between these two basses is pretty much all looks. The sound will be basically indistinguishable.

I also agree on the Active model. Having owned both (and I certainly used to be a big fan of passive basses), I can say that I much prefer the sound of the active model.



Don't worry about your battery running out. They last for a very long time if you use a good quality battery. The only thing to remember is to unplug the bass when you're not playing it for extended periods - that turns off the preamp and conserves the battery. Even when the battery does die, it doesn't happen immediately - you will notice a gradual degradation in your signal, allowing you plenty of time to quickly replace the battery with the spare one you keep in your gig bag (it only takes a few seconds to replace with the easy access control cavity cover).

The active MEC pickups for the Rockbasses sound great. Unfortunately for me, I have to unscrew it before I could change the batteries. Something I wish it won't happen live. :d

Anyway, I prefer the solid color of the Basic to the vintage sunburst ones in the Classic.

The older Rockbasses had a screw on control cavity cover and truss rod cover, but for the last few years they have shipped with the same easy access control cavity and truss rod covers as their German brethren.
