My bass is new and it is hissing slot in the mid possition switch when I ajust the pickup pot up or down. What could be the problem. The samething happens when it is not active. Is it a pot problem? The bass isn't even a year old.
 
There's nothing wrong with your bass. That's just the nature of passive single-coil pickups, or in this case single-coil 'mode'. That 'mode' is essentially unusable in the studio, but in my experience, is not noticable live. Although I run in dual-parallel about 95% of the time...
 
I get the same noise when I move the left toggle up the right In center possition with the pot in the middle
 
Unless I misunderstand, that's what I was trying to say... with the toggle in in the middle position, for either switch or both, the pickups are in single-coil mode which will have a little hum/buzz. Are the pickups quiet when your in the up position (series humbucking) or down position (parallel humbucking)? If so, there's no problem with the coil-tapping switches...
 
No noise when both on up or down, only when one is in the mid possition and other up or down. Then I have to adjust the pickup control to get rid of the noise. I did not notice before cause the noise seemed to be not as noticeable as now. I mean the hiss is quite loud. Even the guys in my band noticed it the last practice.
 
Hey man,

The problem could be in the electricity, or the cable. The passive single coil pickups are more susceptible to have noise, but if the network and cables are OK, then you'll have not too much noise, even not at all...
 
I tried sevral cords and amps and get the same noise. Even when I take out the battery. What does that mean that pot is damaged?
 
i'm on the bass right now and connected it to my computer. when i have the switches in center position and the pickup selector switch in the middle there is no noise. when i move it left or right i get the noise. also if i move the right or left switch up or down with one in the middle with the pickup selector in the middle the noise is present and have to twist it to the counter clockwise for the noise to disappear. i always have to adjust that nob every time i move the switch position. I did not have to do that before.
