confused myself...please help !

hi guys
silly question and i proberly know the answer.

i have a 8ohm 411pro and a 8ohm 115pro cabs.

if i buy a TubePath 5.1 how would i conect it as on the back pannel of the tube path it clearly says 500w, 4ohms min. as do all of the warwick heads ive been lookin at. ok i think i am stupid but can my cabs work with this or do i need the 4ohm cab?? or is there somthing i dont know about?

two cabs rated at 8 ohms each make a 4 ohm load together so you should be okay :)
 
ok thanks ! so just so i am clear....so the 2 cabs would be conected together and one would go in to the warwicktube path.

Ohms are weird, aren't they?

In fact ere is the exact formula : (AxB)/(A+B)
So if you have two 8 ohms cabs you'll have : (8x8)/(8+8)= 64/16 = 4

With 8 and 4 ohms cab : (8 x 4) / (8 + 4) = 2.67 ohms

Exactly. But in that last example (8 ohms + 4 ohms) you need to be careful about the power rating. If you mix cabs with different impedances (i.e., different numbers of ohms) then the power will not be distributed evenly between the two. Put a 600W head into a 300W 8ohm cab + a 300W 4ohm cab, and you'll be driving the 4ohm cab too hard - roughly speaking you'll be putting 200W through the 8ohm cab and 400W through the 4ohm cab. (The ratio of power is the opposite of the ratio of impedances). Of course you can theoretically use this to your advantage: an 8ohm 4x10 and a 4ohm 1x15 will give more bass than if both cabs had the same impedance. But most of the advice I've seen says not to mix cabs with different impedances.
