I'll spare you the backstory - Warwick's maple neck finish is the BEST finish I've played on. My Streamer $$ balances flawlessly. I'm just not in love with the electronics - they're great (and in fact I prefer the sound to my Vampyre, which IMO doesn't sound good unless it has brand new strings on it... but when it does, LOOK OUT), but they don't have a few key features that I think will make me very happy.
First off, I use the single coil modes of the $$ pickups exclusively because I love the pickup location. I wish the bridge pickup's solo'd single coil was the coil farthest to the bridge, but that's an easy fix. The coils, when solo'd, however, DO buzz a little. I don't mind the onboard 2-band EQ, but for me, 100Hz is a little high for a bass frequency, and I've been whining about a 500Hz mid control for a while now.
I will admit that I LOVED the tone of my old Jazz, and I think the sound simply came from the pickup locations, pickup type, and the preamp's EQ. The thing just BUZZED something fierce.
After doing some research, I've settled on replacing the pickups with Nordstrand quad coil MM Humbuckers, which operate in single coil mode silently. I'm also going to install a Delano Sonar 3-band EQ, which has the same bass and mid control (40Hz/500Hz) and 18v power supply of my Jazz' preamp. I'm going to get the EQ to run with a 3 pots and a stack knob instead of 5 individual pots. I'm also going to wire the pickup selector switches to be top coil/parallel/bottom coil like the 2010 LTD, and have the switches flick parallel to the strings.
That way, I'll be able to get the neck pickup locations of both the Jazz and the Streamer LX. Plus the whole noiseless factor, and the 18V preamp of my dreams is another plus.
Does anybody have an experience with any of this gear, or any feedback to give?
