CO/CS - Terminology

Hey, Just wondering if somebody can clarify something for me.

If I do a serial number search on the Warwick website and it comes up with "CO Thumb bolt on 4" in the specs.

Does the CO mean custom order, as in, it's a full custom shop? or is there another way of ordering custom things in otherwise stock basses that I am missing? similar to how spector let you pick a stock bass and make minor changes to make it a "custom order" but not a fully custom shop bass.

CO does in fact mean Custom Order. Basically, anything other than a stock bass will have a CO number if you have anything changed from stock. Even something as simple as the hardware color. Whether or not it becomes a "Custom Shop" bass depends on the level of changes made. For examples, if you want a different finish or wood, that'd be Custom Shop work. Hardware color changes, or say Hipshot tuners as opposed to the Gotoh-style tuners wouldn't quite be Custom Shop.

Now, though, it's a but more confusing, as every German bass is labeled as a Custom Shop bass, as that's the level of quality Warwick is putting out with the top-of-the-line basses. Under that Custom Shop label is "Basic Models" - or the factory-optioned basses that you can buy as they come. The other models are of course German Pro Series and RockBass.

So, if I order a GPS Corvette STD bubinga fretless 4, with black hw, will it be considered a Custom Shop bass?

Me neither, but... will they make you buy a whole set of black hw if you want a GPS Corvette STD with it instead of chrome hw?
 
Yeah, this one is listed under "Custom Shop" in the Warwick CS gallery but when I did a S/N lookup it showed "CO" and it's pretty much a stock GPS thumb bass aside from the scale length, which i assume was the custom order. But the headstock in the pics has the custom shop stamp. From what I read in Shaftbass' post, that stamp/branding is applied to all pro series by default, regardless of custom order or custom shop, to indicate the high quality?

I just wasn't sure if it was ordered as a custom shop just without any other spec changes (at custom shop's higher rates) or if it was a pro series that was custom ordered with stock specs and just one change.
 
Quick question - is the 32 scale worth paying an extra 1k for? At the ebay price you could find a nice Thumb NT4 or 5 string with money left over.

For me it is well worth it.

I know for a lot of people it's just a bit easier to play a shorter scale so it's more a preference than a need, but I have scoliosis and the way a long scale makes my arm/shoulder/upper back twist to reach the further frets with my short arms causes a lot of pain. Which worsens when you have 5kg of bass strapped over the same shoulder for the duration of a gig or a few hours of practice lol.

I currently play a 30" rockbass but I want a nicer warwick. Haven't ever tried a 32" bass cause I can't find one (in person) to test. 32" is all I can find on the market, no 30", and even those are rare so I may as well buy it and see how it goes. If not.. guess it's CS order time. I just know I'd be straight up losing $ if I bought a 34" I can't play. I have tried so many, just hoping..haha

I really wish they made higher end production 30 or 32" options so I could also snag a cheap secondhand one or even just one for normal not Custom Shop pricing :( ....warwick....please? haha

I think that bass is a "normal" Thumb BO but, as 30" or 32" scale are not standard options, it goes thru a CS order.

I don´t understand why they have to charge 1K€ more for a different scale neck, though... :shock:
 
Yup, it's going to be a very fun time paying for this bass but I can't wait for the day I get to hold a beautifully made custom.. that I can play! :D
