Well, there were some very difficult weeks. By the end of November I started feeling a lot of pain in my arms, legs, hands and feet. By a lot a don't mean intense pain, just that it hurt a little, but almost all the time. Since then, I've seen lotsa doctors, of different kinds. At every doctor, no clue, absolutely healthy.
The problem was, at each hypothesis proven wrong, the narrower the possibilities. By the last three weeks I was left with that: it could be a kind of degenerative neurological disease, that kind that starts to serially turn off functions of your body, until you don't have that many to keep you alive. It is not very good to hear that.
The final week of exams was really difficult. I just didn't know what to think. Sleeping, quite impossible.
Well, yesterday I had all the results, and nothing. I'm perfectly healthy. However, there is a lot of anxiety and, probably, a faint depression. Looks like I'm a little bit of a sissy, and that's all. THANK GOD!
Sorry to bother you with all that, but I'm feeling very close to some of you lately, and that's what friends are for!
The good news is that there is actually a brain inside my head! They took many pictures of it, so there is no doubt about it. Now I have to figure out how to use it!
The funny thing: yesterday I was waiting for the neurologist to see me, then I realized that my iPod was playing Alice in Chain's Check my Brain in a loop. Go figure!

Wow man thats great news! I think most of us get some form of anxiety and depression during our lifetimes so i dont think you are alone there mate.

I'll drink to your good health tonight drews!

At age 26 (a long time ago) I had what turned out to be a burnout from (entirely work related) stress.
In the months before that, I had pains in my limbs a lot. I could have known it wasn't something physical as the pains were at different places in my body every time. Recognize any of that?
The mind can make you hurt in any place and fool you into thinking there's something wrong.

Take good care of yourself and keep focussing on the important stuff in life: friends, family and your music.

I am not sure what kind of aches and pains you have, but depression can bring about aches and pains throughout the body, not the severe kind, just enough to be annoying. It has to do with some brain chemicals that, among others, have to do with the sensation of pain. If you 're living a sedentary life or work in an office, it's not the best thing for these. On the contrary, a bit of moderate exercise can do wonders.

This is good news!

Don't worry too much about depression. Almost everybody around me including me had some sort of depression in their lives.
Depression and health problems are signs that something is wrong, you need to change something. They are like the alert light on the car's dashboard.

You need to firgure out what is wrong :-)

Cheers,

Flo

If that's a shot from your CT there's a remarkable amount of atrophy for a 42 year old.

Just kidding, all the best mate.

Wow Drews, that's good news ...:d
Please take care man !

Yeah, exactly like that.

The mind can make you hurt in any place and fool you into thinking there's something wrong.

"The mind is a terrible thing to waste", and it can waste you terribly...

On the contrary, a bit of moderate exercise can do wonders.

I do regular exercise, just stopped it for the last three weeks, because I stopped everything. Now, let's get it on again!

You need to firgure out what is wrong :-)

Being doing that, thinking a lot, and already have a plan. It sure involves family and my Thumb!
Thanks, everybody!

Funny, bringing up the CT scan reminded me a m8 of mine who builds acoustic guitars has a part time job in the hospital.
He now has CT scans of several dreadnaught and jumbo models from famous guitar brands and knows exactly how they were built :)

Hi James,

I am so sorry to hear of your stroke and I pray you will get better soon. About a year and a half ago I got stage 4 gastric lymphoma cancer. It resulted in the replacement of the upper part of my right leg and the placement of steel reinforcing rods in my left leg-and I still take lots of pain meds every day even now. The 7 chemo treatments resulted in my needing a pacemaker as they affected my heart, and the 17 radiation treatments caused severe nausea. I had to sell my four bass guitars, and my Mark Bass 2/10 system to pay the bills. You know what happened after all of that? My bass teacher gave me a vintage Jazz bass to play, a friend took all the basses to my luthier and had them set-up and cleaned. He then put them on ebay for me and sold them using his pay-pal account and gave me all the payments. My church stopped their service several times to pray for me and sent people to take me to the hospital for treatment, therapy, and tests. I have learned about the power of friendship as well as prayer and even though I am so far away from you, I am going to be praying for you and hoping that you will recover soon. I can't speak for all of the people here, but I bet a goodly amount of those in this forum wish you all the best as I do and I'll certainly ask in prayer for you to get better. Take care, James, I hope to hear of your getting better soon.

that's heavy, James... sorry to hear that. Life itself is something we should be thankful for, everyday. The simple things that matter the most. Be sure that we're all praying for you. Thanks for the post, really helped to put things into perspective.

Friendship is an amzing thing, anf the kinds of friends you can make nowadays, through all technology apparatus, friends you'll sometimes will never see in person, but that will keep you in mind all the time!

I 'm very sorry to read this post James. I am sure you will get better. Try to stay active as much as possible, both physically and mentally. If you are insured or can afford some serious rehabilitation, go after it like mad. Even after a stroke, the brain has enormous healing potential. Take care mate.

ididn't mean to jump on this thread i was just trying to say to try and look at what you have and try and push foward and hopefuly things will get better.I wasn't even going to ssy anything about what happened to me but ithought buy sharing a badthing something good might come out.if that makes any sense.and thanks everyone.this is the onlyforunm THAT I FEEL LIKE YOU GUYS ARE friends.

Very well said, James! Don't feel like you're jumping: we're here to help each other in any way possible, and it was this same feeling that made me post this here.
As Jester said, keep going, keep as active as possible: if my brain could convince me I was ill, yours will find a way from all difficulties you are facing now, many people I know got over similar issues, so you can do it to!
