Can you change the neck?

Are Warwick necks interchangable like Fender bass necks are? For example, will a Jazzman neck from my bass fit another Jazzman body correctly? Thanks.

they are supposed to. There is a guy who did this recently here. I forgot his name............... 8)
 
Thanks for the quick response... I just checked the past posts about this and I see that I am not the only curious one. I too would think that the necks and bodies of a particular model line must all be made to the same exact specs or how would W provide a replacement for a damaged neck and expect it to fit correctly? Thanks...

I think that the necks for bolt on models are identical: only the patter for the drilled holes may be different. In case you have a damaged neck, and it needs to be replaced, you have to send the damaged one back to Warwick................ :wink:

it seems to me that I read in an earlier post that Warwick does some hand fitting of the necks to each bass during construction, and that is why the neck-to-body fit is so precise on a Warwick. With that in mind, you may have to do some fitting (woodworking) to swap one neck to different bass.

Perhaps Ollie or Florin can shed some light on this.

I thought that the neck/pocket was machined with 0.1 mm play. Depending on how much the woods shrink/expand due to temperature and moisture fluctuation, manual fitting may be required. This is one of the reasons that the bass should go to Warwick in case of a neck swap, because it does require some skill.
 
You can interchange necks on Warwicks however,the bolt pattern has changed slightly over the years & the heel can differ from one model to the next.At the factory they fit & drill each neck to it's body so there's a slight difference in neck pockets etc.A purist would send it to Warwick,but they'll only replace a broken neck,they wont change necks simply coz you want them to.
My mate Jono(Anarchyok),swapped necks between 2 of his Corvettes & is very happy with the result.

OK... I checked the bass that I want to buy and install my neck on... both are FNA Jazzman basses but mine is new and the other is from 1990 and has the older 4 piece neck. Do you think the new neck pocket from 1990 was the same as the new one? I can't take the 1990 apart to try it unless I buy it. Thanks...
 
The answer to this one would be yes and no at the same time. We match our necks (like explained in an old topic a while ago) by a 1/10 of a millimeter. We do the fittings by hand, so technically it is not possible to swap the neck of one particular bass to another. BUT, if you decided you want to adapt that neck for your bass, it would certainly be possible.
 
Thank you. When you say "adapt" I assume that if the neck is too tight to go into the pocket I would need to carefully remove some wood from the neck using a sanding block. But what if the new neck is smaller than the old pocket and yields more than 1mm clearance?

1mm is too much, we're talking about fractions of a mm here. In that case, the neck will still be capable of staying in place by the screws, it just won't be as perfect, as tight and as stable. On the other case, yes, you're right, all you'd have to do is sand a little and push it in.
