Hello awrybody,

I am going to route my 32" Frankenstein bass at the bridge position to install a TwinJazz in place of the J it has now. There's the issue on where to place it. I was thinking about asking you guys, if you have a bridge TJ that is, about what the exact distance is from the nut to the start of the pickup's plastic. Any measurements are welcome, please state your bass model too, thanks! :-)
 
I have a 4str. Dolphin Pro 1 with twinjazz @ bridge. Can measure for you but why do you want the distance from nut? Distance from bridge would make more sense imo.
 
I guess it would work as well. I thought about the saddle pieces moving around in order to set intonation on any given bass, and chose to approach it from the other side where the nut is always in the same place.
 
Hi Yanni, after you get the measurmets I guess you should do some math.
If 34" === 3cm
32"====x cm?

My '89 Dolphin has a pickup that is MM size (48 x 101 mm).
I guess it is not a twinjazz afterall but a MM switchable humbucker. DUH. :roll:

Indeed Flo I had that in mind. I am also adding half the length of the TJ in the calculation. ;-)

But even then, it's just a guess. Most probably a 32" scale behaves completely differently than a 34". I just wanted some rationale behind positioning, I will also ask the luthier's opinion. :-)
 
Asking a luthier is a good idea, but I think Flo´s reasoning is valid. Tonite I´ll mesure it and post it.

Hey Yanni, as Flo mentioned, considering the short scale the string tension is lower, so if you want the higher frequency boost that you'd expect from this pup, you may have to get a bit closer to the bridge than if it were 34".

PS: Put one right against the neck and one about .5 cm from the bridge - do individual jacks and test the stereo mudbucker/MM sound. Dub and mwah. :d

While I cannot provide measurements at this time, I really, really recommend against putting it almost flush to the bridge like on a Vampyre/Dolphin. Personally, I'd recommend putting the bridge coil no more close to the bridge than the neck coil would be on a Vampyre. If you're going to anyway, and plan on coil tapping, for the love of God, solo the neck coil...

It sounds like a baby alien gurgling. No, really.

I cannot in good conscience recommend putting a pickup any closer to the bridge than a 60s Jazz bass' bridge pup is. Accept or reject as much of this post as you see fit.

Problum iz, now that I think about it, Frank has a RockBass bridge. :-)

OK guyz I am making this easier for you: 24th fret to start of plastic, ha!
 
I has 147mm (or about 5.75 inches) from 24th fret to start of the TJ casing. On my 06 Lolphin SN.
 
Heh, that's the Way Back(tm) positioning, I 'll check out what it translates to out of curiosity. Any udder contributions?

The dolphins have the TJ WAAAAAAAY back. mucho mwah, not much thickness. but great blended in. I think another .5-1cm away from the bridge wouldn't hurt too much. But i certainly agree with making the front coil the single coil if you are going to wire for coil tapping.
 
Hi, here are the mesures in my Infinity SN:

24th fret to TJ: 147mm (I don´t care about inches :D).

26th fret to TJ: 129mm.
