Hey,
I recently got a (new) Corvette Standard 4, and have noticed some odd vibrations and buzzing coming when playing certain strings or frets (not fret buzz). I first noticed whilst playing my 8th to 10th frets on the G string but I have now noticed it noticeably when playing the open D and A.
I have another thread on TB (Odd vibration? - TalkBass Forums) and it has been suggested that it could be a loose trussrod (or other hardware) that is vibrating. I have checked the hardware on the body, and all seems secure, and when knocking lightly on the back of the neck with my ear to it, I cannot hear the truss rod vibrate or shuffle. I have also recently noticed that the vibrations and buzzing is much less pronounced when the bass is lying flat (e.g fretboard is facing the ceiling).
Any thoughts?

Thanks for your time and merry christmas! (:

Hey man, welcome to the forum, and merry christmas!

Sometimes a weird buzz is comeing behind the fretted note, between the note and the nut. And lowering the nut is the solution.

A loose trussrod can be, yes. Use the trussrod tool, and see if the trussrod is moving really easy inside. It is a two way trussrod, and it has a dead center, so for a couple of turns it is doing nothing, so it is free inside. Try to tighten it.

Cheers,
Flo

If it was a problem with the height of the nut, would muting above the played note stop the buzz? It does not seem to in this case.
I will try the truss rod now. Would a small turn like 1/8 be sufficient if the truss rod is loose?

Thanks a lot Florin (:

If you feel like the rod is free inside (NHS) just turn it untill you feel it engages.

Or perhaps not... it seems to be rattling again after half an hour or so of playing... :/

Have you checked the trussrod again?
Don't be afraid to discuss this with the dealer that sold you the bass.

Yeah, seems to be loose slightly. Could i perhaps put something the muffle it (like cotton wool) under the cover and above the turning bit of the rod?
