In replying to another thread...I got thinking about the mid gig breakages I've had over the years (never had anything break in rehearsals as far as I remember...ironic).

I always take good care of my kit, but now I think about it...it does seem to be a lot.

  • Had both tweeters blow in my 411 and 211.
  • My 115's speaker blew when one of my mates gigged through it.
  • My input socket fell into one of my X-tremes casings.
  • Various cables break.
  • Wireless transmitter cable broke
  • Freshly charged batteries failed in wireless.
  • Thumbs strap locks failed once every couple of gigs for a month or so will I sourced new ones.
  • Thumbs input wires on the preamp snapped away.
  • Had a few of the actual input sockets on my Thumb fail.
  • Had to service both X-tremes cos of the fan wearing out.

I have been gigging a hell of a lot for the last 7 years (ish) and most of this I just see as kit wearing out from use (amp fans needing servicing, sockets, cables & strap locks needing replacing) and I rarely have to stop for more than 30 seconds while I swap something to a backup but...

How have you guys been (especially you guys that gig extensively) with kit fails???

One time only the cooling fan on my Trace Elliot amp failed. I had no backup at the time so I just screwed everything out of the case and played on with a naked amplifier after 5 mins of our lead singer entertaining the audience with some stories.

I never even broke a string during any gig! Is it luck?
 
I dropped the bass, and brokenthe tedur nut. It took 20 seconds to put something underneath
a tech wired two amps in the same cabinet, and it blew my tubepath 10.1
The guitarist kicked my xbass, and cracked it at the pot area. No impact to the gig . FIXED!!!
some broken cables, batteries failing, or jumping out of the bass, all the normal stuff.

Nothing major happened in more than 10 years of heavy gigging :)
 
One string broken, one battery failure, one multieffect nightmare/failure.

For a long time a have been carrying spare bass and stopped that 3 months ago. Double bass gig bag is very heavy.
Today I am going to buy spare multieffect.

Last weekend after gig I got my Thumb BO BN in gig bag leaned against my car. And stupid wind got it toppled on street/asphalt. I almost got heart attack but after inspecting bass I have found that I have ultra good 25mm tapered Gewa gig bag :) Thank God, bass is OK; haven't even need tuning after that... I still think about that incident at least once a day.
 
GT 6B came in. With ME 8B I believe I have two best synth engines that BOSS has made. Ever 8:
 
I'm not surprised. I was going to PM you actually after the PM you sent me a few weeks back. I brought the Boss ME20B for practise and the synth sounds soooo nice
 
When I played my hard rock band I would break my E string every now and then, I oly ever needed to change my Elixirs back then when a string broke. My Corvette's input jack crapped out after 7-8 years.

Lately my only issue has been my amp failing on me, but thats fixed as soon as I have some cash.
 
On the subject of E-strings breaking, on the I AM I tour we just finished, the bass player from I AM I broke 3 E-strings in the first few gigs. He had a new strong endorsement and they seemed really dodgy lol. Sounds like the Bridge I know (the strings were breaking in the same place, just above the bridge, each time) but as soon as he brought a set of rotosounds...no more problems ;)
 
OK, some of us must be familiar with Rotosound Swing bass stainless steel.

Do you think it is hard with frets ? I feel it eats frets about 100 times more than any other stainless steel string..
Used it with my Cort, Prec, MM. Will not use it on WW.
 
To be honest. I've never spared a thought about eroding frets. I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. I seen many unaltered 20 year old Warwicks and never seen much fret wear
 
I think it takes a looooong time to have a good fretwear on a Warwick, and then a refret job is worth all the money :) Justplay the strings you like, man :)
