Broke another tuner today

Hi Guys.
Bet you're sick of seeing this type of thread, but I broke another tuner while re-stringing my FNA Jazzman.
Last time it was the A tuner, this time the D string tuner. my questions to you all are: Do you know if there were a bad batch of these things?
Is there another more reliable replacement?

It seems the post in the middle snaps off at the base of the post! Metal fatigue perhaps? I have had the bass since new, it is a 4 string 2004 Ltd edition which I bought in 2005, so I guess it has had about 30 string changes in its life. I imagine everyone looks after their basses and I am no different. It has had no knocks, has no blemishes and as it was a present from my wife, will not get damaged while I am still alive ;)
All the people involved with getting me a new tuner (Dominant, All Music) have been very helpful, but I would like a more permanent solution. It seems to happen with just days to go before a gig, I do not want to play my spare bass until I get a 5str neck through infinity.
All input greatly appreciated.
 
There was a bad batch of tuners at some point if I remember correctly.I cant remember what year though.
Try emailing Dominant Music & see if they can help you out with a complete new set so this doesnt happen to you again.

All Music, my local dealer, has been in touch with Dominant already, they will definately assist by sending one overnight.
I am just looking for a more permanent solution so I am not in this situation again.
 
The new batch of tuner are much stronger around the base of the stem.
It also happened to me & when I compared the 2 it was evident the new tuner was more robust.
However, there's a few brands of tuner that'll fit your bass, like Gotoh,Hipshot, etc.

Dominant may have already sent a full set, I'll wait and see.

Unfortunately no Thunderous lows yet.
Dominant has not sent the replacement to my local shop.
They were instructed to send it express mail yesterday. I am paying for the postage BTW.
The shop rang Dominant 20 minutes ago and they still have not posted it.
Am I in the wrong country for Warwick service?

I live in hope for tomorrow.

Tuners don't break on my 2004 FNA LE. OTOH, I never
change strings unless they break, which almost never
happens on basses. I will compare my '04 to my newer
Wicks and see if I detect thinner posts, but if I were
experiencing your problem I wouldn't ask why, I'd just
get Grovers, Hipshots or Sperzels. The '04 LE is about
the best bass I've ever encountered, and I'd equip it
with whatever it takes to keep it operational.

I may need to order a set. I live in the sticks (read remote location of Australia) so getting to a major music retailer to check them out can be a 700km round trip.
I just picked up the new tuner, Dominant sent it overnight, can't tell if the post is thicker until I get home tonight.
I agree, the FNA LE is a fantastic bass, it's my main go to bass and just about all I play at gigs. I was looking down the barrel of using a Maton Fretless JB4 if the tuner didn't come in. Not the right bass for a rock show.
 
The bad tuners will be mixed in with the good. So it's a real lottery when it comes to how many, if any you'll get on your bass, let alone the year model.
When a company like Warwick purchase parts like tuners, they do so in pretty high numbers, to keep the unit price as low as possible & to ensure a constant supply on hand.
I think from appearnce alone it'll be virtually impossible to tell if a tuner is thinner at the post's base coz you cant see through metal.The only sure fire way to tell is if it breaks.
Service in Australia is as goo, if not better than any other country for Warwick.
Dominant go far above & beyond what all the other Aussie distributors go, wheather it's via this forum or the Ozbass forum. I could list examples but I dont wanna be typing for the next 16 hours.
 
OK. Pulling head in now.
Dominant did a great job of getting it to me, thank you. It just came two days later than we had all expected. Probably due the the remote area I live in.
You're right there Greg, you can't tell if the post is thinner at the bottom; but you can see a small difference at the top. The locking ring has a slightly larger hole than the older ones, indicating a thicker post all the way up.
I don't have a set of calipers to measure it, but there is a perceptible difference even to these old eyes.
