Bridge project complete

thanks to avionix543 my Warwick bridge project is complete.
Bob really did a great job making these saddles(vintage bone)

for my "Vette". the original saddles were worn out and not doing their job so I opted for a different style saddle and along with the Warwick bridge feature in being able to raise the entire bridge it worked out great. This bass plays like it never has since I have owned it.

I really like these strings, the Ken Smith description is spot on.
I also use S.I.T Power Flats which are close but a little more dark and to the flat side than the Smith's

Correct, that was the price I paid for the mod. I figured that I use Ken Smith exclusive for this bass so I could live with that.

But it should be possible to have the bone saddles in an adjustable version.
 
Brian - Looks great! It does seem to add a certain something, doesn't it?


Ollie - I've thought quite a bit about that too. The issue comes with the integrity of a piece of bone or ivory throughout drilling and tapping for setscrews and the load placed on it when the string is under tension. Plus, Bob makes them a little tall in order to allow filing to create the string radius desired. Adjusting the spacing and intonation is exactly the same as the normal saddles so once you've settled on a few different types of strings, the radius isn't likely to change much. If Warwick's bridge didn't move independent of the saddles, this would be quite the impractical mod. Luckily, we have a really flexible bridge design to work with!! :wink: :D ~M~

My wife of all people said it "added a little extra something to the bass" and for her to say something about one of my basses, :shock:
Lets just say I left well enough alone.
But it should be possible to have the bone saddles in an adjustable version.

Oliver, I am sure anything is possible? But I will have to agree with M, I think the integrity is the biggest issue there. I thought that I would miss that adjustment until I got the saddles and set the bass up, now not so much.

The reason I ask is because my Warwick came with strings that look just like these. I never knew what strings I had on.

Are Ken Smith Compressors the only strings out there with purple silk wrapping? I've just always wanted to know what I had on my bass.

I am not really sure about the only strings but they are the first ones I have come across come to think about it.
