Hi everyone. I have a two-fold question. Firstly, what are your thoughts on brass frets versus normal run of the mill frets. Like? Dislike? Indifferent? The next real question is, do brass frets wear better than the same run of the mill frets? I'm asking as I will most likely order some frets from the Warwick online store depending on what type of advice I get from all of you. I'll go an play a few of the German Warwicks this week to check the differences in feel between the German made basses with brass frets versus the Chinese made basses with standard frets. Granted, this won't be entirely fair considering price and quality differences but it will give me an idea.

Anyways, any and all opinions are greatly appreciated and thank you all again on the string thread. I'll be picking up a few sets this weekend to experiment with.

The brass frets have a specific "Warwick" sound, together with other factors of course. And yes, they are more solid than the regular frets :-)

Agree with Florin on this, the bell brass does give a bit more of the "Warwick Sound" however the regular RockBass frets are great to my ears.

As with most things it really boils down to personal choice, some people (although not a great number) actually request alternate fretwire when they have a custom shop built. It just comes down to how you like things to feel.

I asked mr Ryan Martinie why he used nickel frets on his bass.
For aesthetic reasons that is :-)

Nickel strings, black hardware...
