Body wood limitations

Well, I just tried getting a quote for a CS Corvette NT, and the response I got back from Bass Central is that Warwick wouldn't build it the way it was quoted.

I tried ordering it with a Black Walnut Burl top, Walnut body, and Wenge neck (I have another bass like this and really like the sound) with the FNA jazzman pickups. They were ok with everything except I'm told they won't put a figured top on anything but Swamp Ash.

Does anyone know if there's a specific reason for this limitation or if it's a new thing?

you need to specify you are ready to pay an extra for the back of the bass. All bass with tops come with swamp ash back, but if you want something else, you need to pay for a back piece which is the same price as the top.

Actually, we can do what you wish. I guess the people from Bass Central believe it´s only possible to have a top with a swamp ash back because the price for a top automatically includes the swamp ash back... In you specific case, you have to choose the option for the top and the option for an alternate solidbody.

Thanks for the info, Gregory! I thought that might be the case, since my first 'Vette CS order had no swamp ash in it and had a custom top (karelin birch top/purpleheart middle/mahogany back), and at that time it wasn't a problem.

On a related point, if you wanted say a koa top on a mahogany back, would you pay the same price as a koa top on swamp ash AND a mahogany top on swamp ash, obviously sans swamp ash, if you follow!
