Blisters!

Bah...bloody hate them! I have a wicked blister on my plucking finger from a particularly slaptastic practice session the other night!

Anyone know of any ancient Karate Kid style balms that will resurrect my finger overnight?? Btw...I'm not fooling for any 'wee on it' suggestions! :evil:

Ok this is what works for me.

Make sure your hands are very very clean throughout, very important to prevent infection.

Use a clean needle to pop the blister and get all the fluid out (wipe the needle with spirit or iodine or something to sterilise it)

Put your finger into hot water with a lot of salt - this will help the new skin underneath harden and firm up. Do this for a while, until the water cools or your fingers get all wrinkly.

Then... cover it in superglue. I'm not joking. Superglue is sterile and non-toxic, and will harden and cover the vulnerable area and protect it.

Do this for a few days, and it should be ok.


Again, this is just what works for me, I'm sure other people here have their own solutions!

I did that. Had to giant blisters - filled out both my playing fingers on the right hand - and they both ripped open during a gig. The fluid ran down my sweet bass

I'd been playing for years and finally ended up with a thick layer of hard skin....until one night when my amp packed up and I couldn't hear a thing. Naturally I just played harder - the problem was the 3mm thick layer of hard skin had 'detached' from the deep tissue and was this annoyingly wobbly chunk of hard skin.

After a week or so I took the courage to cut it off which left a deep hole in my finger and some very new skin, which meant I couldn't play for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, that's my blister war story....anybody got any others??

Follow up to blister treatment....

It's not very rock and roll, but my tip is Lavender essential oil.

My very wise wife suggested I put some on my unburst blister and it's pretty much sorted, just a day later. Apparently it's also great for burns.

You may smell a bit 'old lady' but it's a small price to pay for a fully functioning digit!

We used to mate,that was until we discovered coca cola & vinegar works way better than our piss.btw piss also means alchohol here so be careful what ya ask for.Especially if the person you're asking is not a bar person. :wink:
