Having recently encountered a breakage in one of my tuners I am thinking about changing out the gold hardware on my Streamer Stage II from gold to black, does anybody who has done this have any pictures that they can post?

I'm curious to see the finished article as I much preferred the black hardware on my Thumb(I would have swapped them over when I sold my Thumb but was going from 4 to 5string  )

I think they look pretty sharp. The PNUTT II used black hardware, however the body is different wood.

Right now, mine is in my signature. You can get an idea.

I did hardware swaps on most of my baasses. they are easy to do. ask Thndrstk for a mockup to see what it looks like. I have never seen an SS2 on black hardware. .... about how easy it is to swap. without fine setup could be between 15mins-1 hour. minimal tools required.

see here around the midpage:

oin my Thumb BO and Fortress One I swapped hardware as well as my Corvette $$ I ordered with golden hardware and when I swapped it I put black on. ($$ not in pic)

I personally think the SSII looks better with gold hardware. The (often) lighter color of the afzelia wood matches better with gold. However, black hardware is hard to go wrong with too!

My SS2 is from 05 and it is kinda reddish. the older the SS2 the more reddish it loooks. maybe it might look similar to a Thumb NT's colors knda.

Cheers guys, appreciate the input. Yeah the P-Nut looks really smart, and I'm sure I saw a black hardware SS2 ages ago on Talkbass but for the life of me I can't find it again.

I do kind of like the gold but it seems to tarnish quickly and look a bit shabby, also I've never had any breakages in 5 years of using black hardware but had 2 issues already with the gold after 4 months. Probably coincidence, but makes me want to change!

this is what this therad:

was all about.

Golden hardware fades too quick. the Vintage ones from 1990 and far are still golden and a bass older than 1-2 years is now almost chrome

Yeah that seems to confirm my feelings to go down the non-gold route.

Only problem is that due to the post-Christmas financial pinch I can't replace all the hardware at once so I'll have to go through a period of having a fairly unpleasant looking Frankenstein streamer as I gradually make the swap over

I'll maybe just ask them to shine the lights away from me on stage.....
