I've done it. Today I bought myself a Stingray.
It boosts incredibly and guys, it's amazing for slap.

It's okay. As long as you don't get as fanatic over it as the Sterling-Ball-is-God-Cult over at the EB/MM forums, I won't judge you.

I actually like Stingrays, and the way they sound very much. They cost too much here in Sweden IMO, though. About twice as much as in the US, and more.

Just kidding.....A Stingray is the only 'American' production bass I would ever consider. I don't hate the shape, and they actually sound good. Although they always felt like plastic-coated-press-board to me, even though I know that not to be the case.

Hey the fact I now own a Stingray won't mean Warwicks are fire woods to me.
I am still one of the earlier Warwick fan around here, but believe me.. that smooth, round sound of the 70's pays the price of the instrument.

Welcome, Pilgrim !!!! You're gonna love that SR more and more.

And yeah the bass boost is hyper. A tiny twitch above the center detent is all that I use for most tunes.

The numbers tell my story. For keepers it's EBMM:Warwick = 7:3

It will never replace the 'Wick, but the Stingray is a great "alt" bass to play. I play mine SR quite a bit, especially with slap/pop because that maple neck sounds so good!

Different animal... A 93 SR 5 was my workhorse for 5 years... BIG fat tone, still, I switched back to Warwick for more "voice" and articulation. I never looked back...

Congratulations Daniele for your new baby, it is a great bass!

It looks just like a whole lotta MM's, cuz it's the classic swamp ash SR4
with black PG. Got 2 like that right now, and my departed '78 Sabre was
the same. It's a familiar icon of Bassdom.

I've brought a lotta different basses to a lotta jams, but only when I'd
unbag [unsheath??] the ash & black SR4 would the geetards fall silent,
shuffle around, and mutter that I get to call the next tune ;-)

Even the buyer of my battered '78, who is far younger than the bass
itself, admitted that appearance played a big part in his wanting it. An
ash & black MM says, "I'm here to play. Count it off."

I like the Stingray tone a lot. It wouldn't be my only bass but def. a welcome addition. A real funk machiene.
 
I have a SUB, and it's a great bass, load of ballcocks, great tonal versatility. Easy as hell to play. Close to an SR except for the poplar body. I really do have to get rid of the silly aluminum look pickguard though.

I think you misunderstood dude, I wasn't sure if writing bollocks here was politically correct. So I downgraded it a bit.
 
i use to own a pre EB stingray ... but sold it 5 months after i played with the darklord.

someday, id want to own a cherry burst J/MM stingray ... but for some reason whenever i think about it, i always end up getting a warwick... even the money i plan to use for an amp, i ended up getting a warwick with *lol*

i dont know... maybe id even get a vampyre rockbass first before i get that stingray....

they definitely are good basses though... except i had to use like 4 pedals in mine to make it sound like well, probably a bleached blonde - based on soundclips.
 
i like the sterlings myself. I like the body and the EQ.
 
This may not be terribly romantic, but I generally think of musical instruments as tools - and whichever works best for the job at hand is the best choice. If they all fall under one make, so be it. But it doesn't always work that way. It's only betrayal if you're fully endorsed :lol: :twisted:

How was that sabre? I looked at one for a while when I was upgrading to my first 'real bass' about 7 years ago, and was super-stoked on it, but my streamer found me at an amazing price long before I'd saved the cash for the sabre.

Musicman basses are great instruments, and playing other basses is only a 'betrayal' if you consider yourself to be a warwick player before a bass player ;)
