best in music

gday everyone
this year i set out to be the best in my music class. i can confortably say that im well on my way to my goal!
i got 83% for my aural exam, 90% for my viva voce (havent done my practiacl assessment but i always ace them lol) and came first in music for half yearly!
so amped for it! it feels even better cause i said id do something and i did it :D

Congratulations mate!!!

I am a big believer that if you want something bad enough you can achieve it.

Now that you're there, DON'T GET COMFORTABLE... strive for more!! :)

I was there once at the university. I had no laurels to rest on, I was only the best in the class at the time. You have a gift as I do, but it's only a boost, and temporary. The rest is up to you. If you want to excel, use this as a springboard and launch yourself. The real work starts here.

I sat in on a Pat Metheny master class. Among many many many esoteric statements, he said "always be the worst player in the band, you will learn the most."

I usually say that ego should be checked at the door.
Don't get me wrong...it's awesome that you want to be best in your class, but make sure in an ensemble setting, you don't get on someone's bad side by acting like you are the next Victor Wooten or something.

The classroom is fine. Learn as much as you can. Not being comfortable is good advice.

I used to be in this theory class, and the teacher would give us pop quizes on chords. He'd give the chord, the quality, and inversion. Then pick someone randomly to "spell" the chord.
... it was the hardest thing for me. I learned more then, than when i knew more than my class. I think i learned more then because i was determined to do better. When you're comfortable, you relax, dont think about it, just say it. This way challenges your musicianship.
