My 5-string double $$ neck is a little thick and I want to take some of the excess off. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so how far did you go? I'm a little worried about hitting the truss rod so if anyone knows how much wood is between my thumb and the back of the rod, that would be helpful.

I want to get it a little closer to a jazz neck but I'll take what I can get

Lastly, since necks have to have a certain amount of neck back wood to help keep it stable does warwick have a certain recommendation on how much be left on? I'm tuned EADGC, idk how much of an impact that has but thinner strings should require less resistance right?

Thanks for any input

I know of a couple of cases where this has been done succesfully.
Just be carefull, take it slow & use very sharp tools.
Re. neck stability. I think you'd have to remove quite alot of wood before you undermine the neck's structural integrity.
Good luck.

some where on the qarwick site there are cutaway pictures of the neck and you can get a idea of how close the rod and iron bars are.

Be carefull with the tension thing.
Considering a medium gauge 6 strings set (say 130-105-85-65-45), the 5 lower (and bigger) strings will pull a neck less than the 5 sharper ones.
Usually, there is more tension on the smaller strings, so your tuning results in more stress on the neck of your Wick.
