@sprocket, thanks for the info. I had found the wiki already, but I wasn't sure if you were planning on tuning an octave higher. The video sounds cool, too. The different string gauge/scale length results in a quite 'jazzy' sound in this example. Not your typical 'jazzy bass sound,' but more like jazz guitar.
I'm not sure if I could play this type of instrument very well, as I'm used to having more than four strings, hahaha! You see, my main instrument is actually guitar, not bass. I like a lot of non-standard tunings, though. Hopefully, I'll own an 8 string guitar some day... ;-)
If you need thinner strings that are long enough for a bass guitar, you could try Circle K Strings. I've heard good things about them, although I haven't used them myself.
