Any one else into overclocking?

I can't get enough of it now... I spend most of my forum time on overclock.net.

Don't get me wrong... the bass is still steady... but I bought a computer that could play some impressive games, then gutted it and made it awesome-er.

Anyone else?

Ive been considering doing it. I'm tempted but its mainly to boost the performance of my PC for recording/DJ purposes as i'm broke atm so can't afford to upgrade anything atm

My Intel E8400 CPU is currently overclocked to 4.0GHz.

What are your specs? Most factory built computers can't be overclocked without replacing the motherboard.

Last year I was running a Pentium Dual Core 2160 1.8->2.4GHz with the BSEL mod (using aluminum foil!) on an el cheapo motherboard that did not support 200->266 FSB setting. It stopped working once and I had to replace the foil for another 6 months of fun. It was completely stable, great bang for the buck CPU o/c wise. Of course I could have fried my cpu/mobo but no bad luck for me. I like dual cores so much that I am now running an E5200 @ stock 2.4GHz. I had it running completely stable @3GHz but can't risk anything because I am using my system for work. Come to think of it I should have gone for a proper Core 2 with Virtualization Technology because I often run virtual machines. My o/c stories are not much, but that's how I like it, playing safe. If you're still using Windows you need to overclock your machine to get decent performance out of it.

Processor - Intel Core 2 duo - E6420 @ 2.13GHz
Motherboard - DG965WH

Dunno if its possible with these. Currently it runs fine though no latency issues with my audio interface and software, i'm using ableton live 8 and a Focusrite Saffire LE interface. i might need the extra power in the future though, but atm if it ain't broke no much point trying to fix it

Seems to be a pretty decent board. Do you know what BIOS it has? I like the big heatsinks. It's a nice touch.

I have an i7 920, and a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P...

But the board is currently being RMA'd.

From what i gather i'd probably need to install a new BIOS before i tried anything, was also looking into some mini water cooler for about £70(cheaper than a new processor and useful for the future) so i could overclock my processor some silly amount without it over heating.

Focusrite Saffire LE interface

Awesome choice there dude....got one myself and haven't looked back. It literally wees all over the Mbox that I had, to the point that I'm not concerned about latency at all.

I can slap dozens of soft synths and plugins in, and barely have to up the latency to keep it running at 30-40%.

Man I need a new machine despertly. I'm still running a P4 2.8 gig I have clocked to 3.2. Anything further and it gets a little unstable. But you know, from my experience, unless your really doing some hard core gaming, I don't really notice a big difference from the stock processor speed to having it OC'd. Might just be because my sh*t is just so old.
