Any good music gifts?

For those people that celebrate the holidays, did any of you get some cool music-specific gifts? My mom always requests a list of music items that I could use, so here's what I got...

- 8 rechargeable AAA batteries, and a recharging base. Not very "cool" per se, but I use a couple Mighty Bright lights for theatre shows, and these lights burn through batteries very quickly (and being led, they dim as battery life diminishes).

- Portable Music Stand. Not the thin, flimsy ones that you see normally, but one of these:



A lot of the theatres I play at do not have stands available, so you have to bring your own. Another theatre I play at has very old stands on the verge of falling apart. This stand will not only be perfect, but is wide enough for those 3-page charts to sit on, without having the sides of the first and third page hang over the stand.
 
I've found the failure rate on the rechargeable batteries so high that they end up way more expensive in the long run than regular alkaline batts. So has everyone else I know who's got them. YMMV here. It is nice to see you didn't fall for Treves' blunder when you named your quartet though.
 
Thanks for the input, Doog. I figure if the rechargeables last two charges (which I'll easily do between now and February), they'll pay for themselves as opposed to continually buying 12 packs of AAA batteries.

The problem with rechearchables is that they die suddenly. You cannot rely on them during a show. The regular bateries start to distort... etc... You have plenty of time to replace them.

The rechargeable simply die.
 
Thanks for all the info gents, but like I did say, they were gifts. Nice thing is that the charger is small enough to be kept in a gig bag in case it's ever needed (and I did get enough batteries to charge a set prior to a gig, in case they do die). I'll keep everything in mind, thanks again.

I had a Peterson Strobostomp 2 (strobe tuner), which is goddamn awesome :D
 
Mono Strap for me, finally I have a wide padded strap - I can't believe I didn't get one sooner, my back thanks my mum for getting me it!

Rechargeable batteries suck. Maybe good when fresh, but once you start charging, its lifespan begins to decrease until it takes more time to charge than its actual life. Alkaline batteries are better. But if you want longer performance, you should try lithium batteries too.
 
Well, it wasn't strictly a Christmas present, but my new Streamer (see ) arrived two days before Christmas so it felt pretty Christmassy, and everybody who's seen the LEDs agree that they make it very Christmassy ;) Unfortunately I'm still trying to figure out a way of "moving" them to where the frets would be.

Maybe I got a gem the pile but WOW is this a nice bass for the money! No BS. I really expected it to be ok but wow. Sounds nice, though the strings are kinda meh. Frets lined in and smooth. Fit and finish is great, wood looks great(you can see where the two peices on the body combine but its not obvious if your not looking for it from less then 2 feet away). Tuners are good, pickups are good. Love it, soo different from everything else I have(all active 6'ers lol).

That said going from it to the tumb and it feels like I got out of a 1979 GTi and into a Porche GT2. lol

Nice bass. I had two SXs for a while, and gigged with them quite a bit before parting with them over the summer. One of them I had spec'd out to be a Fender '62 jazz (complete with stacked vol/tone controls). The Gibson guys in town (that are still here) loved that bass.

Found this under the tree this Christmas, and it is worth a test, at least. One step ahead of QTron+.
I just need to learn the funk...

Also

The bigger one on the left. I don't use much effects, but own a few (digitech synth wah, the muff, tc vintage compressor and korg tuner) - I'm almost not gigging and I'm not at home too often. So it's easier for me to put them all together on this board and just have to plug it in - so chances I use them rise enormously ;)
So this is the board with 2 loops, ac and the bag.
I can't say that it's perfect in any way. It's pretty cheap plastic stuff and it's not free of noise - but it's really a good compromise as long as you don't need pro-stuff. Wouldn't frequently gig it, though.

It's the best tuner available.It's got a good quality DI,true bypass,can power all your other pedals,is about 1000 times more accurate than other tuners making doing your intonation alot more precise,contains sweetened tunings,like for instruments with the Buzz Feiten tuning system installed.
That's just off the top of my head.I'm sure there's more features.;)

Seriously, before I ever tried a Petersen, I was of the mindset that "a $200 tuner can't be that much better than my sturdy $20 tuner. Besides, if the group has a piano (not keyboard, mind you) that's not in tune, you're better off tuning to that."

Bought a Petersen StroboFlip (same version as Greg's, except in a plastic flip case that can be mounted on a music stand) over the summer for my summer stock run. Completely changed my mind on the whole tuner aspect. I use it more for setting intonation when changing strings more than live, but it's a fantastic tuner.

A fresh new set of Warwick EMP strings for me :) Just what i needed too!
 
I got a set of DR Lo-Rider strings, and two sets of... Warwick Yellow Labels! I haven't tried them yet, but I will when my D'addarios wear out :D
