How is this supposed to help with the distorted E???

I had the same problem with this pu.

It is simply to hot - in my case 18v solved the issue

Desperation!!! Why doesn't the bass just working well in the factory setting?
 
While I agree about the factory setting, I currently have 2 all-active Duncan setups wired in 18V and they're just fine (if not a little tame, output wise)
 
Ineed it doesn´t solve the problem. The setting of the trim pots only affects the slap contour when the volume-pot is pulled. But I say thanx for this additional information about the bass, maybe I just should start to rtfm. As soon as the main problem is solved, I will try a little to get an interesting slap sound. Right atm this would be useless.

So what now? 18 Volts? How?
 
Great! This can even be done by a lawyer! I ordered the needed wires, hope to get them today or tomorrow.
 
No, no, no... It did not help. Different strings, pickups at their lowest possible position, 18 volts...

When I raise the basses more than middle position the gear gets nearly unplayable. It doesn´t matter if the balance is blended to one or the other or to both pickups.

I can directly compare the bass with the other two Infinities. It has the highest output of these three. To lower the volume of the bass and to raise the volume of the amp also doesn´t help to avoid the buzzing of the E-string.

For home use it might be o.k., but I don´t want to own a bass which is limited in it´s use. Any other ideas left?
 
replace pre with the one from the fretless

(very easy) and check if the problem still there

if so change pus if not change pre
 
I tell you what I would do. Bypass the damn preamp, it makes your sound muddier anyway, even if 1% still takes some harmonics out of your bass. Pickups should not distort by themselves.
I am almost never using any onboard preamp. The new LTD 2014 have a great new preamp with switchable mids (250 and 800 HZ), still the best feature is the possibility to switch it off by pulling the volume knob. That's the default position.
 
Could there be realized all of it? Some kind of true bypass AND the possibility of active control including slap contour AND serial sound?

Already our Philosopher King had adviced a complete bypass of the preamp. Main problem: the Infinity is a slap monster, nearly slaps by itself ;-) To eliminate the slap contour would violate one of it's main features.
 
Well, switch it on when you slap it :-) I actually like a little distortion in my bass. I bought a bas from Sascha 2 years ago, old streamer with old electronics with almost dead caps :-) So it was distorting but in a very desirable way. It was never the same after I "fixed" it :-))
 
What intrigues me is......

Why bother with 18V ? What advantage would there be in using 18V verses 9V?
I can see potentially a greater range of sound could be created, but with the circuits set up for 9V, would there be any point?

Forumers that did this experienced an increase in headroom, so I guess it is a good mod after all...

Problem solved! And the bass got it´s serial mode! Such cool additional sounds! Thanx Schlo for the quick and perfect work!!!
