Amp to PC

I have some different questions!
Hope you guys and gals can help!
I posted this (below) or similar, on some other forums.. but no help or answers..

I used to have a Peavy Rage 15w and a Crate GX-15, both are small guitar combos.
I wanted to use the distortion from the headphones-output on the combos with IR's, since I was tired of digital distortion and couldn't afford any gear..

I tried using the Peavy (HP-output>Line in), but the sound disappeared and I knew something wasn't right..
So I used it in combination with a cheap mic tube-pre.. and the pre suddenly faded and stopped working.. So.. I'm guessing the Peavy sends out electricity.. The pre still works.. it just stopped working at the time..
Tried it with a DI, didn't work either..

Then I tried with the Crate, headphones-output..
And it worked.. It worked well, I liked some of the sound I got from it..
So I tried using the Peavy through the Crate.. and it also worked..

Btw, the peavy works fine with headphones..
So does the Crate..

The experimenting was done with an M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96..
Like I said, the Crate worked fine, for long sessions.. the Peavy killed the equipment within 10 minutes or less..

I decided to remove the cab and speaker and make "heads" of them, to save space.. So I chopped them up.. I read that it could be done since they're solidstate..
And I got a new soundcard, an M-Audio 1010LT..
Now..
I can't get sound from the Crate into the soundcard..
Works with headphones.. But not with the line in.. as it did with the 24/96..
I re-connected the speaker, but no sound to the soundcard..

I don't get it..
What is the problem? Any solutions?
I have better stuff now, but I would still like to use them..

I have a cheap mixer, and a DI that can channel electricity..
I haven't tried connecting Amp>DI>Mixer>PC, nor Amp>Pedal>PC..
Maybe it's bad ideas..

I was about to throw the "heads" out.. But since I'm waiting for my Warwick combo.. I thought you might help..!
I'd like to know if I can connect the "heads" to my Warwick Blue Cab 60.1 (arriving next week), or is that also a bad idea?
Then I could channel the signal through the BC60.1 's line-out.. and get the distortion..
The Peavy seemed to work through the Crate without any problems.. But I don't want to risk killing my new (hopefully sweet) BC60.1..

Which is best, using a reamp-box (Palmer, ~80 Euro) or the line in on the BC60.1 ?

Hi Misaria,

sorry, but what you´re trying to do sounds a little like the work in Frankenstein´s laboratory to me.

First thing I like to emphasis is that you can fry ANY equipment by connecting a headphone out to a line level input. That´s like russian roulette. One time it works, next time BOOM!

IMHO the best way to record an amp that´s got no DI out would be simply microphoning. If that sounds no good, a cheap alternative would be using an active DI box like this one here: BEHRINGER DI100 ULTRA-DI - Svensk International Cyberstore
It´s important that the DI box is capable to handle an amplified signal. Otherwise you´ll have the issue of frying equipment, again.

I haven't tried connecting Amp>DI>Mixer>PC

This will do the trick, but the DI box must be able to handle the amplified signal.
And, NO! Don´t connect the "heads" directly to your brand new Warwick baby, my friend. Same situation here. Russian roulette! Alway use active DI to transform speaker level signal. I know I sound like a sermonizer but you can´t say this often enough!

Haha, yeah, it's a bit crazy..

The Crate worked everytime and I used it for some recordings/test..

I do have that DI, but it didn't work with the Peavy.. And it doesn't work with the Crate now either..
Both the Crate and Peavy works with headphones.. but the Crate does'nt work with the line-in anympre..

I could try it with the mixer..
Otherwise I guess I have to get rid of them.. But I'll wait and see if someone has ideas for what to do with them.. if they're still usable..
