Should I Modify My 97 custom NT 5 Thumb?

Just throwing a question out there, Im seriously considering taking the electronics & pickups out of my custom 97 NT5 Thumb and installing Nordstrand passive pick ups to see what it would sound like..

I have Nordies on both of my Tomkins basses & they are amazing pickups, just very interested to see what they sound like in a NT thumb.

I would keep all the original electronics as to put back in if needed. My thumb has SD Basslines in it now, so the nordies are the same size, no re routing etc. Still have 3 knobs on the front Vol / Vol / Tone etc.....

So, Please help me make my mind up by answering the two following questions.

Q1/ Am I a complete total F-wit for concidering this??

Q2/ Has anyone else here put passive pickups in a NT thumb bass??

If so, you can put it back the way it was.

yeah!1 give it a shot and if you don't lik them, then put the original ones back one.

+1, Nordies are awesome pickups, you will like em.
 
If it involved drilling holes in the body and sawing off the neck, I might be a bit more cautious... but on the basis that you can retain the original bits... why not go for it!

The mods aren't as drastic or irreversible as some of the ones proposed in the recent tattoo thread... heh! heh!
 
Keep the old electronics and take them out neat so you can put them back if you don't like the new set up.
 
nothin wrong with trying something new especially if you can just go back to the old way if it dosent work out the way you want. Have a go at it!
 
I reackon ya should do it Rusty.It's no big deal to put em back if it doesnt work out.
I'd love to try out the SD AJB5 pickups and the STC3a preamp in my stage 2.
 
Thanks guys, i might just have to order me a set of nordies me finks!!

The only difference is the mounting holes. The SD have 2 screws center on the edge, the Nordies have 1 centre on the bottom edge & 2 towards the edge on the top. So even if I put the old electronics back, you wouldnt know....

Just gotta save some $$$ to get em now, maybe sell the missus..:roll:

I voted Go For It. If you can put it back to original, the only consideration is the money spent on the pickups if you end up not liking it. Then again, you can always resale the pups so really no big loss.

As to selling the missus... I vote.. Are you friggin nuts? It's winter my brother. With the rising heating costs these days, I would highly suggest you keep your missus at least until spring when everyting starts to warm up again. :lol:
 
If you don;t need to do any work to the wood swapping electronics is fine imo, i'm planning some crazy ideas for my basses and when i get the cash i'll do it.
 
Go for it, brah!! What's the worst that can happen? You don't like it as much then switch back....that's not so bad...is it??
 
If nothing drastic is needed (like routing, drilling,...) go for it.

ordered the pick ups today, our prime minister is giving me a $1k bonus this year. Just dont tell the missus!!!!
