Hi just wondering if you guys could help me out. Are the aguilar pre amp's compatible with the warwick mec pickups on a passive corvette?
i was just looking to spice up my bass! also any other recomendation's for onboard pre's apart from aguilar?

I use the Aguilar DB924 outboard 2 band preamp with my corvette standard and I like it. Some might say it colors the natural sound but I enjoy being able to add a little bass and treble at times. The corvette can do just fine by itself as well. I use some older Sunn amps that are fairly straight forward in terms of tone and tone shapeing so a little extra control is good at times. I think they make a 3 band with mid as well. Good luck!
 
I had an Aguilar OBP-3 installed in my old Thumb BO and it was a really noticeable change. I liked it a lot. Those preamps will work with any pickups as long as the volume pot matches the load of the pickups. They have pretty detailed wiring diagrams on the Aguilar website.
 
ahh i see, well i was thinking of investing in the obp 3 onboard version, i play through a prototype ashdown evo II 500 rc, it is prety damn good, i can get exactly the sound i want out of it, but i really want to see what an aguilar sounds like, also as i live in the uk the only place i could find em cheap was american ebay as i have no idea if they are sold in the uk. i shall investigate more into it.

If you're in the UK it might be worth checking out the Overwater active preamp that can be retro-fitted to most basses. Also the Schack pre-amp which is available from the Bass Gallery in Camden is worth a listen.
 
I use an Aguilar DB924 outboard pre-amp on my fretless thumb 5. I switch my bass to passive and then use the Aguilar pre-amp. Wonderful sound, warm and very round. Not punchy though, so it depends on my moods wheather i want to use the Aguilar or not. BTW i'm not using MEC's, my Thumb has EMG's on it. The OBP-3 is a great pre-amp. I have that one installed one one of my other basses and it's great, very versatile. You can practically make any variation you want, but still...the sound is also in your fingers as the great Mr. Gary Willis once said!

haha indeed mr willis is truly a legend. well like i said i have the vette standard passive, and i am not sure at all which obp 3 to go for? ahh and i just have the mec's on my bass, some of us arent as lucky as you to own a THUMB with EMG's!! :cry:
so i am still stuck as to which obp 3 to actually go for, and i will also have a look at the overwater pre's cheers owl!

Good luck with your quest for another pre-amp. I have also good experiences with J-retro, might be an option for u as well.
