A very very old Thumb bass..... 1985 content.

I find that once the dunlops are fixed on the strap they don't come off (the strap) and for the lock to come out the would need the whole system to fail quite spectacularly.
- whereas I found with the Schallers that over time the nut unscrewed itself off the strap which wasn't a nice thing to happen!
Anyway my SS1 has the recessed strap buttons so I have to use dunlops and the new thumb means I'll end up investigating schallers again!
I hurt my fingers somewhat trying to remove dunlops from my strap, so I will give you that one! I just don't like the idea of a button holding the bass up!
Ah, didn't know you had a recessed straplock model, Schallers no good for that for sure!

Your thumb is in better condition than mine - congrats! Seems like this one isn't played too much, good for you. Are you happy with the pu's?
Btw: Mine is L283 - 85 maybe a few days younger than yours

You know what I ended up with after years regarding that straplock-voodoo?
Have a look - I strongly recommend this:
One tiny rubber ring on each strap knob. Silent (you may know the rubbish noise when you sit while playing and the strap lock's flapping around), cheap and absolutely safe. It's the sealing from the good old german beerbottles
and you'll never loose a f… straplock-nut anymore (I lost hundreds

And yes... I'm slowly falling in love with this bass- the streamer is still the "main bass" - and normally when I play I would take that or make an active decision to take another.... recently I've not been thinking and just taking the thumb.... and discovering new things about it tonally.

So a couple of months ago I came fairly close to buying Jack Bruce's Hellborg rig as he sold it off - now I wish I had, if I hadn't had a hellborg preamp already I wouldn't have had a reason not too. I'm probably going to regret that one now for a long time.
anyway flipping through the Warwick newsletter on the 3rd page is Jack playing what must have been his original 1985-6 thumb bass -quite cool to see he's also using the Seymore Duncan active pups - I wonder if anyone knows of any other photos of him playing his original thumb bass - I wonder if his also had the fancy TRC?
