A new member to my family

I recently purchased a 99 Corvette with a Swamp Ash body and full Wenge Neck/Fretboard. Also has Bartolini pickups and NTMB 3-band electronics. I can't get over how much lighter it is than my other Wicks. Now I have to decide on whether or not to convert this to a tenor bass.













Can anyone tell me if this serial number says anything about whether or not it is a custom shop or not. All I got out of it was 1999 and I have never seen a Vette like this one.

Congrats on the new Corvette! That's quite a collection of Warwicks too! The new custom shops have a little oval plate on the back of the neck that says "Warwick Custom Shop" along with the year it was built, but I don't know if older ones had that or not....

The serial by itself won't tell you if it's a custom shop or not. And kho, no the older custom shops didn't have the plate on the back of the headstock. This was introduced this year.

Sorry for my ignorance, but, what is a Tenor Bass? Strung in a differen't octave?

Just tuned one quarter up so the lowest string is the A instead of E, so ADGC. It gives you a different sound and is easier for melody playing, Vic Wooten and some other bass players use it a lot. If you want to have a piccolo you use piccolo strings and tune EADG but one octave higher (but still an octave lower than a guitar.
If you want to play classical music like bachs chello suits etc you can tune it in fives instead of quarters, makes it easier because open strings are quite common / mats
