A little advice please regarding the newer Warwick basses

I've had my Streamer Stage II since 1995 and it is the only instrument I will NEVER sell.
Alas, At 10 lbs., It has begun hurting my back on long gigs and since I'm getting older with time, the bass is not getting lighter.
Could one of my Warwick friends point me towards a bass that will have the virtues of my beloved SSII but be considerably lighter?
I would be interested in such a bass.
 
Hey Les!! I have a brand new ss2 made in 2008. It's a 4 stringer and it weighs in under 9lbs. I Forgot exact weight but it's around 8lbs 12 oz last time I checked. I'll be more than happy to trade if you're in the states and it's a 4 banger
 
Thanks for the kind offer but there's no way this old girl is leaving me, especially for a '08 Ovankol neck.
I'm just interested in finding out if any Warwick makes any lighter weight models that still sound and play like a real Warwick

Well my ss2 is definately under 9lbs. My dirty blonde was almost sub 8lbs. My streamer lx was around 8.4 lbs
 
I really dig the streamer lx. Though it's not as straightforward as a ss2 it's more tame but punchy as a ss1
 
ever think of one of these--but with a fatter strap.

hope i am not being rude but if your having issues with a bass at 10/11 lbs a bass at 8lbs (and a little over) will not really help..it might for a very very short term,your health is your wealth and longterm you have to do whats best.stuart zender had the same problems with his sholder after years of streamer use,his sig model might be worth a look(price is more than likely off the chart)..
the last thing you really need is having 2 guitars you cant use..

The old Cherry Streamer Basses are very light (I beleive my lightest one has 3.1 KG) :-)

+1 - The Streamer LX is closer to SSII... Or maybe try a C.S. SSII with swamp ash body, considering that it is a NT, probably the Ovankol neck has a great influence in sound. This is just a speculation, I've never had a SSII with Swamp ash in my hands...
 
The infinity NT is quite light weight (my infinity NT 5 is lighter than my thumb NT 4s) But then again it's a different beast than the SS2.
 
This might be swearing in church, but you might consider a mahogany-bodied bass too. As said before in another thread, It has plenty of range and is pretty lightweight.
 
Dolphin SN with TCS is just 4.1kg. I'd go for a really comfortable and broad strap though, it helps LOADS. Keep playing your SS2.
Besides that, 4 to 4.5kg is very normal for a bassguitar. This is another reason to try and find a solution through a good broad strap.

I use Levis myself.
 
I have Corvette Hot Rod 2005 and it is very light! It has a hollow tone chamber in the body. It literally feels like a feather compared to my other Warwick basses and still sounds like a Warwick. However, I couldn't really advise on how it sounds compared to your current bass.

I LOVE my Hotrod 2005 5 string. I will never ever sell it!

I remember back in the late 80's that a local guy had a Cherry Streamer (Stage I though they didn't yet have that badge) and though it was constructed as a SSI it had a pair of Jazz pups like the SSII and it was 'light'. However I'm assuming it was ordered to his spec so there won't be many floating about and I couldn't make a comparison with the tonal difference.

The SSII's that I've owned certainly had a distinct signature sound and despite owning a multitude of other Warwicks I wouldn't say that any of the others sounded like a SSII... so I'd have to say that if that is the sound you like, I'd stick with the SSII but try and find a lighter one (my 88 SSII was just under 9lb).
