A combo amps afterlife

So I've mainly been using my big cabs to practice at home since I have'nt been in a band for awhile now and thought, hey lets try out my sweet sounding Markbass Mini CMD 121P - I thought hope letting it sit did'nt do anything to it, which should never happen anyhow - Well I popped it on and noticed the speaker was blown - Only the ADG strings sounded ok - I set the clip on this combo from day 1 and never played over half volume which should'nt be an issue considering the speaker handles 400 watts at 8 ohm and amp puts out 250 watts for that ohm rating - Most of the time its at quarter volume - Bad luck I guess - Well until I need to bring amps to houses again I'm not getting the speaker redone - I decided to pull out the amp which has no cover on the top and bolt a sheet of lexan to the top - Warranty was up awhile ago anyhow - Sounds pretty awesome actually and kinda glad of its new marriage to my SWR Triad 1 - I seem to have bad luck with combo amps and blown speaker when I never even push them - I'm always aware of any distortion or clipping

Glad you found a use for some of it, but strange that it should happen like that. I'm actually thinking about returning my MB combo and keeping everything separate. I'm really gassin for Aguilar DB750 head with a 2X12 cab or keep saving for the Hellborg.

Combos can be pretty amazing at times. Last night I played in a small space through a Roland Bass Cube 100 with a 12" driver which was nothing short of amazing. Very tight and round lows!

A work colleague has an old Trace combo which is now a head.....sawed the bottom off, so it now sits on "stilts" that were the cab....
