'89 Streamer Preamp Questions (with picutres)

Hello...

I just got this what I was told was an '89 Streamer. Nice bass though I think my Thumb NT is more comfy to ware for hours. My question is the preamp, it has EMG Pickups and two volume controls but the tone controls are pretty odd. The bottom one is the one with the circuit on the back of it. I am trying to figure out if it's MEC or EMG or something else all together. Once figure out what it is I have two tracts I am going to possibly take.

1. Sell the bass all together, I just like my thumb better - any offers??? :-)

2. Replace and or rewire the preamp so that it has one volume control and a balance control. Since it has EMG pickups I was seriously considering using an EMG preamp with knob config I mentioned above. Anybody else replaced the pre in their EMG loaded Streamer? I'd love a preamp with a bypass but it is not mandatory??

Well Warwick has confirmed the preamp is not MEC. It may be vintage EMG and I have a query out to them. I'd sure love to know if anybody here on the Warwick forum has seen this preamp.

I cant help you with identifieing the preamp but rewiring for volume,balance,tone, tone with an eq bypass or even a passive tone on the active eq bypass wouldnt be too hard.

I have come to find out that it has an EMG EXB circuit in it. Which when you turn it clockwise it increases the highs and lows and then decreases the mid-range. A slappers dream, which I am not a slapper!! I have got the bass up for sale if anybody is interested. If I keep it, I will be removing the preamp in favor of something more to my liking.

I'd switch out the EMGs and preamp altogether. Tailor to your taste with choice of new pickups.
 
I am finding that I am probably one of the rare players in the world that do not really dig the P/J combination. I figured this out earlier in the week when I noticed another bass I recently sold soley for tone reasons... It had a P/J config. We'll see. Lots of '89 Streamers for sale right now.

I agree with you, I could'nt get used to it, but two J's I can like, go figure :)
