Introducing one of the best basses I ever played, amazing feel, amazing growl, in excellent conditions, my '87 Thumb JD. Finally I've been able to put my greedy hands on one of these and I assure you this has been put in the untouchable section of my collection.
Now I will start to save money for a Dolphin Pro I, it'll take a while but I'll get there ;)

Nice bass Enzo, mine is the lightest weighing and thinnest neck Thumb NT I have ever played 8:

Ken how many lbs does your Thumb weighs? Mine is 9lbs 1oz and it does NOT have the infamous neck dive, probably because of the skinny neck.

One day you will have a wonderful Trio, because you'll sell me your Dolphin :)
 
Enzo, I cant give ya an accurate weight of my thumb at the moment. As far as neck dive goes, I have never suffered from that as I always use leather straps.

I've owned several Thumb NT basses inc' JD models and I have NEVER had a problem with neck dive! The short horn and stretch to the first fret were the only down sides for me.
 
I was afraid of that short horn honestly, but luckily I took the decision to try it personally before taking other people opinion for granted and I'm glad I did because the stretch is less than expected and surely a minimal trade off for the sound and feel this bass can give you.
This was a lesson for me and should be for others too, judge from your own experience, not from other people's one.

That's the great thing about opinions; we all have them and none of them are incorrect/wrong because they are just 'opinions'! ;)
 
Not many differences as far as I know. That's a transition year for the bridge style, the rest should be the same.
 
I don't think there are many differences either, just the bridge, later somewhere around 1990 the dots dissapeared and the pickups were changed. Some cool fact; the earliest thumbs, i.e. 1985, have a much shorter horn then the latter ones :)
