6 String Thumb BO VS 4 String Thumb Bleach Blonde

the bleached blonde is a real nice bass and the weight is nice to i like the way i sounds better then a regular thumb bo.i like 4stringers i don't like 5'sor 6's to much so i voted for the bb and if it doesn't look punk there has to be so low tack (easy to peel off) to cover the bass with.

OK so i let the bleach blonde go - good price too, somewhat got it for under £700!! I'm pretty set on the FNA (weird, as i was sure it wasn't gonna be right for me - good suggestion Tom!) but general concensus is that the price from Absolute Music is a little steep at £1050. Found a 4 string version on ebay, so I may put in an offer for that instead. Will let you all know how i get on!!

EDIT: And the 6 String got up to £820 but didn't sell as it didn't meet reserve, doubt I would have been willing to bid above £800 so I neva would have got that one!

Hey dude,

My last bit of advice is to maybe speak to the store with the FNA see if you can move on the price, if thats the one you have fallen for then it's the bass for you.
All basses are different and there is a chance you might buy another one and not like it as much.

I always have to play a bass before I part with my hard earned because you never know!

Also stores tend to give a full set up when you buy, new strings on it and some kind of warranty.

The Thumb is generally accepted to be a bass you wear high up. If you play in a punk band and like something low slung then I would say the Thumb is probably not the most logical choice for you (but that does not mean it's necessarily the wrong choice!).

Apparently, I didn't get the memo that you're supposed to wear the thumb up high. I wear my basses low and have no problems playing my thumbs in this position. I feel if the bass is too high, my right wrist will be in an awkward position not conducive to playing. Apparently John Norwood Fisher didn't get the memo either--and he doesn't seem to have any problems playing his thumbs.

This is why I used the word generally.

I once saw a band whose bass player used a 3/4 double bass on a strap played like an electric bass! Now as much as it made for a great spectacle it's not the way things are normally done!

All musicians are different, which is what makes us such an entertaining bunch! I go through stages of playing low then suddenly playing very high. I am simply trying to aid our fellow bassist on his quest for the right instrument!

If you like the Thumb slung low then that's cool we all have our own technique and if it works for you then go with it, but it is generally considered to be a bass best played high and going from OP's question I am simply giving him the general answer!

The reason for my comment is because I'd hate to see someone limit their choices and rule out acquiring a thumb bass if they like to wear their bass low. It's a great instrument. I'm not saying anyone is wrong.
