I may be but I find it really frustrating at the moment that i cant just pick up a 4 or 5 and try and play some Wooten stuff that just cant be done on 6.

ehhh why wooten stuff can't be done on 6? Never heard of Bill Dickens? He has a similar technique to the one wooten use but he plays a 7 strings

I'm trying to get used to the 5 stringer, played 4 strings since I wuz 13, and I'm old now. But it's fun to learn a new way to play, I don't use the B much, but the spacing is good for faster playing. Some of Foxton's stuff is a lot easier on the 5. For some things the 4 stringer is easier, such as the bass part in the middle of 'Blood and Roses' by The Smithereens.

my thought is bass is BASS. we're not here for high notes. we're on earth to show off the low end. we can play high notes but do em on that low e string . i would say trade for a 4 banger. i want a six string fretless to do all those claypool songs, but i wouldn't use it outside of that, thus i would not but a warwick fretless 6 (Sorry.) i would, on the other hand, but a CS katana 4 string.

I am with Lex. I would stick it out. Maybe you can't play some Wooten licks because of that C, but hey, now you have something else to practice! :lol:

I'm pretty sure Vic has a 6 stringer somewhere and almost positive that he doesn't let that hi-C get in the way of his phat thumb!!

Keep at it! You will benefit from it!

I find the C gets in the way more than anything else and I have hardly touched it so far. I haven't used it in a band situation yet so I don't know how it would do there but its unlikely I will need to because apparently where i live its impossible to find good dedicated musicians.

It's hard to find like minded musicians ANYWHERE!

Stick with the 6 matey, it will be good to have in your arsenal once you develop your playing technique.

Having said that, definitely look to add a 4 string to your collection; it's a different playing experience and important to have.
